white, warts [ID]

no, I have no intention of eating this, or the all too common "hey can I trip on this?" question haha ... just curious for an ID.

Not a good specimen, seen a bit of wear.

Atlanta area, in woods, mostly pine.

Glanced at it, and thought it to be an amanita... kind of eaten up when I got to it, tiny worms were all in it eating away, smelled like yeasty bread, no spore print taken but would figure it would be white. 3/4" thick stem, about 5" high. Gills didn't seem attached, hard to tell.

I'll second that. It's an Amanita, and identification to species is probably going to be nearly impossible.

Happy mushrooming!

Those are extremely common here in Atlanta. Ive seen yards covered in them. I believe they are Amanita rubescens which is edible, but it is highly reccomended that you DO NOT eat them.

In my readings, A. ruebescens. bruises pink to red. In maturity which those have obviously reached, the basal bulb isn't present. This one has an obvious portion of the basal bulb intact.. Sorry to disagree Remy but I must....As to a guess at what type of Amanita.. I don't have a clue.. Nice pics though... bet they smelled terrible...

weeehhh. nasty gills. Amanita xyz Descartes. just kidding.

uhhh, iding to species will need extensive details and research and i would not advise with such a fucked up specimen. find some other younger ones and maybe we can have some fun with it. not me though, this is one of my few breaks from the endless torture of work i have to do, among other things.
