HOW MANY MORE DAYS UNTIL TUB IS DONE? (PIC)
#18389576 - 06/08/13 08:22 PM (11 years, 7 months ago) |

I checked on my tub (brick of coir, 2 quarts verm, 4.5 quarts water, 8ish quarts rye grain spawn, some coffee) on day #8 or 9 (depending on how you count) and this is what I found:

it looks nice and healthy up close but there are a few uncolonized patches of coir.
can anyone give me an estimate of how many more days i should wait before checking again? i would prefer to check on it later rather than sooner but at the same time i am excited for my bulk grow...

from wht i can see it looks great. coir doesnt always colonize all the way so no worries with that.
looks like its almost ready to go.

i am not sure how to measure the agressiveness; i only peaked at it once after 8 days and actually didn't look at it directly; just opened it quick enough to snap a pic. i dunked the grains expecting the tub to colonize faster... i am not ready to birth it, i want to wait before i replace the taped holes w polyfill and reveal the tub to the light

well as soon as u start to see pins forming i would introduce to fruiting. indirect light is beneficial for growth at any stage btw.

I would give it at least 4 or 5 more days, you are looking for full colonization.
Bulk substrates do not need a consolidtion period, fruit right when it hits 100%.

I'm at the same stage as you on my first monotub. I spawned on 6-2 and checked yesterday. Gonna give it a couple more days though. I soaked up the little pools of water with paper towel and put it up

Hope you produce wonderful fruits

Thanks ;-)It's a 15 gallon tub of multi spore albino A+. For the substrate I used cow manure compost, half brick of choir, vermiculite, and a couple tsp of hydrated lime. Mixed with my rye berry spawn at about a 1:2 ratio. I colonize at room temperature...just got some pan cyan spores yesterday. Lookin forward to that project :-)

I reached 100% colonization when I checked this morning. It's in fruiting conditions now. If everything goes as it should I shouldn't have to open it till harvest. Yours should be just about ready too ;-)

There's a bit of moisture on the substrate. Not a lot, no pools, just drops here and there throughout. Will that evaporate naturally or should I fan? I was thinkin to just leave it and let it do its thing.

yeah mine is about ready. there are still patches of coir that aren't colonizing well. i have a feeling i didn't mix the substrate well enough before/after pasturization and there are chunks of dry coir alone the sides.
