Easy Garlic Hummus

So cool to se this forum up already!

This is really easy, and intended for the garlic lover especially.

1 can chick peas (garbanzo beans)
1/2 bulb garlic, peeled
1/16 cup hot water (microwave it in the GLASS measuring cup)
a healthy squirt of lemon juice

Put the chick peas and garlic into the blender, squirt some lemon juice in the blender, then add the hot waster. Put the blender of puree, and just watch as it purees everything. You'll want to add some water if it looks too thick (it just won't blend well, it's pretty obvious), but too much water makes it undesirably soupy in consistency.
When blended well, spoon out into a bowl, and microwave on 7 for 30 seconds.
Take out and put some olive oil on top and serve with pita bread.

1/16th cup, yeah, that is tiny, basically use a little at first and add as needed, you don't want too much water in it, or it becomes not so very good.

If you're a sick garic junky like me, you can up the anty to 3/4 bulb of garlic, but it'll start to sting your mouth.

Also, after making the basic hummus and before heating it up a bit in the microwave, you can put in a few tablespoons of tahini if you want, gives a somewhet nutty taste to it, probably better if non-garlic junky friends are stopping by. Serve with lots of pita bread.

what exactly is hummus? i had it a couple times and it had a bitter+tangy taste to it. it seemed like something that would be aged for a long time... but they way you guys describe it, seems it is just peas and garlic????

Yeah, some tahini mixed in works great, but takes some of the edge off of the garlic. By the way, I must have been high when I wrote 1/16 c water, more like 1/2 c. Olives and red bell pepper work good in this too.
