I'd say overlay, because I can spot no primordia.
Have a great grow!

that is neither. It is called "hyphal knotting" and it happens right before you start pinning. You could patch and increase yield. Or not.

You do not patch cakes, that is only for substrates with casing layers.
And patching does not increase yield....so much bad info...

Yes. Notahacker420 is correct on one thing. Patching is GENERALLY used for fixing casing on bulk substrate grows.
But what he is NOT correct on is the misinformation part. This is a direct quote from RR on patching as taken from RR's Notes on cultivation- "*You apply it to your fully colonized substrate and cover it up. You then place it on a shelf out of the way, at normal room temperature for a few days. When the mycelium pokes through a few days later, introduce to fruiting conditions. Read up on patching. It's optional, but does increase yield and pinset."

I am not correct because you proved it to give a better yield, or just because RR said so?
Adding a casing layer to cubes should not effect yield to my knowledge, so patching the casing layer should do all of nothing for yield, if growing cubes.
How long ago did he say that?

I've only been growing these things for 3 years so I don't claim to be the shroom guru. However, IME- patching helps. I only included RR's quote in because when something is disputed in the Shroomery you have to have factual backup. And IMO, RR is pretty much the big-dog daddy when it comes to Mycology.

Aerial myc? But my humidity is right, this has been fruiting for 2 days now. I'd love to see some pinning tomorrow but i dont think it will happen

IME it usually took about a week in fruiting for pins to appear. Aerial mycelium is nothing to worry about, just make sure to fan plenty they need lots of fresh air.

Damn, i knew i was adding too much water thats why the aerial myc was growing and still is. how much water would you give a day? 1 spray in 2 days? This will decrease my yield right?

Yeah, i took that one out and put it inside a bag to see if the cake can deal with it. A question if this ends up growing more dots is it possible to spray the mushroom with water/bleach cut it in half and take a sample from the inside to make a liquid culture or agar culture?

no, in fact i would take it out of the bag, molds thrive in those enclosed enviroments, give it lots of fresh air, i would personely toss/burry it

1 spray in 2 days? It usually takes more than that. Spray when cakes look dry. Spray a GOOD mist on them. The verm is there to help hold the moisture content and act as a casing. That's what a "dunk and roll" is.

I see your dots. I also see where the dots are is not where you patched because the myc was already through. Patching won't contam your cakes because 1. Verm doesn't grow or hold mold or bacteria. If you were worried about that being a problem you could have pasteurized it first. 2. If the cakes were 100% colonized you would have been less likely to develop a contam. And 3. Lack of fresh air is one of the main causes of rot. Putting it in a bag was a noob move.
What I would do if I were you is study more and have strict adherence to the tek's and cleanliness. Other than that- peace to you my brother and good luck!
