Can an Ehrlich Reagent be used to test blotters?

Pretty simple question but I seem to be getting conflicting answers when I check out other forums. Seems that the ehrlich reagent is the only reagent that can accurately be used to detect the presence of LSD, but it seems like this occassionally does not work when it is on a blotter? Anyone have experience with this reagent? It doesn't seem like nearly as many people utilize this reagent when compared to the Marquis and Mecke

Yes, that's the main way I've heard it used.

Ah good, thanks for the information. I was wondering if the colorization of the blotter was normal for LSD. I know that the reagents should turn pruple but this only happend 5 minutes after the reagents and the LSD (or other indole alkaloid) were mixed, while the blotter turned immediately purple. The color of the mixture was pink.

Its purplish pink. Should start pinkishorange end purplish with in 5 mins. After 5 mins test is invalidish...
And the mixture is the color you want, not the blotter paper.
I use this method:
Few drops Elrich's in a vial, waterbottle lid, etc. (Clean/dry first) Put a sliver of blotter on one side of the drip Tip the vial so the blotter goes from one end to the other. Then I check the color of the trail it made.
Simple.
Your method sounds good, results good too.
I dont use the color of paper because some ink may be soluble in Elrich's and would distort results.
Maybe think of testing drugs diffrently. I think of the test as a what do I not have, rather than what do I have... Its nice to rule out stuff you dont want. Its harder to pinpoint what you have, esp with Elrich's. I use marquis first always, then go from there.
The Mandlin test will hit the major holes in the marquis.
