Photo comparison of Ps. weilii and Ps. caerulipes.
    #1836519 - 08/21/03 10:38 AM (13 years, 3 months ago)

I think we had a decent debate going in my other thread about caerulipes and weilii and their similarities. Also, bluemeanie made a similar comparisons of austrailian Psilocybes. Lets start the debate again. I didn?t want to clutter my caerulipes post with debate and pics of comparisons.

So, I will first post in here the two pictures of known Psilocybe caerulipes, and then I will follow with pictures I have taken of weilii that are identical or atleast extremely similar to these pics of Ps. caerulipes.

Heres one of richards pics...

and heres the pic MJ posted...

"Thanks LK. I don't think anyone could deny the similarities in the cap.
The stems look different though and the last pic looks like a caerulescens."

I agree. I think they all look a lot alike. The stems of the caerulipes are white near the cap on some of the specimens; that's not something that's seen on weilii is it?
I completely agree with you that caerulescens and weilii could be the same mushroom. Either that or they share the exact same habitat, and are only seperable microscopically.

Man, weilli sure do look hard to spot on leaves and pinestraw. I guess lawn looking is the way to go. Great pics!

I'm just reading along. Looking at all the pics and reading descriptions. I live in New England, so I will be looking for the infamous blue foot once the weather drops a bit. I have alot of wet land, with a river right in my back yard, so maybe I will find some. I go to Georgia to visit family a few times a year so I will be looking down there for the weilli's.... great stuff keep up the info.... NFU....
