What type of malt extract should I use for a master slant tube?
I think this is the right recipe: 10 grams agar agar powder, 5 grams malt(is it more or less for diff kinds of malt? Or does only one kind work?) Per 500 mL
I see a lot of lme available on eBay, but then you start getting into wheat, amber, dark... Idk which one to choose

2% agar sounds right for slants, so that works. I personally use an extra light dry malt extract (bought from a local home brewers shop) for my mixes and it works just fine. Ive also used a "pilsen" dry malt before that worked fine. Basically I just went for the lightest color malt I could grab, both for sugar integrity and for aesthetics.

Extra light malt extract is all I ever use because you want to be able to see through the bottom of the plate of agar to examine your specimen.
Here is a recipe from Fastfred's Media Cookbook:
Long-term Preservation Medium (FDA M85) ---------------------------------------- 3 g Yeast extract, 0.3% 10 g Peptone 30 g NaCl 3 g Agar 1 L Distilled water
Heat to dissolve ingredients. Dispense 4 ml portions to 13 x 100 mm screw-cap tubes. Autoclave 15 min at 121°C. Cool and tighten caps for storage. No pH adjustment is necessary. [1]
I use 17ml in a 20x150 tube as taught at Aloha. I also add a wooded stick (coffee stir). Rather than screw caps, I use Kim Caps and parafilm them to the culture tube (which allows for air exchange).
