next step after ms?
    #18361396 - 06/03/13 06:02 AM (10 years, 11 months ago)

Ive been using multispore for my last few grows & id like to move from that to cloning/sub strain isolation.
Im not exactly sure how to start or what to do though.
Im hoping to use the grow i have colonizing & take the nicest fruit from each flush & get some good cakes with better genetics started.

My recommendation (as I've never done agar, although from reading about it, I'd definitely check that out) would be to move away from cakes if you're still doing that.  Maybe give wild bird seed a shot; for the same amount or less work, you'll get way better results with yield and probably potency (I make that statement assuming you're just birthing your cakes from the jars and fruiting them rather than spawning to a bulk substrate.)

If you don't want to get into agar just yet, liquid cultures (LCs) are easy, but the biggest arguments I've seen against them are that agar is just about as easy, and you can't see contaminants in LC like you can on agar.  If you catch contaminants early on agar, you can move your good mycellium to another plate and possibly save it, whereas with liquid culture, you won't even know it's contaminated until you try to inoculate jars.  Hope this helps.
