Great pics of the gelatinous pellicle! Also the cross section clearly shows a hollow stem. We have narrowed the field to atleast a genus, all these facts coupled with the color of the spore print indicates you defintely have a Psilocybe, now weather its active or not is still up in the air, lets see if we can pin-point a species. I have to say though, Growing in such a northern location, growing from dung, and being very gellatinous like your mushrooms are, it sounds like a dung dwelling inactive Psilocybe, probably in the Ps. merdaria, semiglobata, moellerii, coprophila comlpex.
The annular zone on merdaria and moellerii is usually on the lower half of the stem and at most in the mid region of the stem, never on the upper portion of the stem. The annular zone, if not dusted by spores, will appear clear and may be hard to spot. Its more like an extra thick part of slime on the stem For lack of better description. Do any of your mushrooms have this? Check lots of specimens, some older mushrooms may loose this annular zone under certain conditions.
And has there been any defintie bluing reaction in the split mushroom?
LK,

Im going to agree that these are definetely Psilocybes. The bluing reaction in active mushrooms is usually very obvious, and is a bright blue in color. Some of the pictures appear to have a dusting of spores on the annulus, but that may just be dirt. Try to get some spore prints, for trading. This is a very interesting post.

I am pretty sure they are Ps. semiglobata, but they could also be Ps. merdaria. There is a definite gelatinous annulus on these mushrooms typical and unique of semiglobata, and it is also on the upper region of the stems in most pics I see. Also I think merdaria is suppose to be more of a cinnamon brown color, and some of those younger specimens show the typical light yellowy color common of semiglobata. I am very familar with this species and have picked it on many occasions. Heres a pic pointing out the gelatinous annular zone...

Here are some pics I took of Ps. semiglobata I have found on the ole hard drive for comparison purpose. I know you said you took a look at Ps. semiglobata, but one pic form a book never shows what they can look like in different stages under different conditions... A nice collection, notice how some of the annular zones have been dusted by spores. Same collection close up and underneath... Showing the gelatinous annular zone... Showing the gelatinous seperable pellicle... Showing the gelatinous stem... LK,

THANK YOU THANK YOU LIZARD KING!!!!!! You have made my day! The pics you posted and the mushrooms I have are exactly the same. They have dried out conciderably and was wondering about potency. I will do some more research on these. The P. Semiglobata is one of the types I had in mind because of some pics Sporeworks.com web site but they are not supposed to be in Alaska. Thank you again everyone that helped! Hope this helps other in Alaska as well with our limited selection up here. :P

I have found about 10 more in various locations around the same 3sqr mile area so I am hoping that this was not an isolated incident.

Dont want to rain on your parade but as far as I know stropharia/ psilocybe semiglobata is not psychoactive. if they really are bluing though then thats a different story...

Id think it would be safer to say that it could be that mushroom - without examining the cystidia, basidia and spores it would be impossible to be certain. seems like a reasonable stab though LK! Certainly isnt Coprophilia or any related species.

There are 2 websites I found that list it as a psychoactive. Magic Mushroom.net (Stropharia semiglobata [psi] [mkw])this is how they list it. and at sporeworks.com it is listed as one as well. Who is right?!?
