RYE ...
    #1832945 - 08/20/03 10:18 AM (20 years, 5 months ago)

HI EVERYONE.... i was wondering....after simmering the rye( i don know too much english ..i guess simmer means to boil the water), should i wait the rye to cool before strain them ???(again..i guess to strain means to take off the excess of water from the rye) and should i wait the rye to be cool to procede with the sterilization????

Well ..those are my questions..thanks for your support ..Bye!!

Well you should strain for a long time, like an hour or 2, so it'll probably cool by then

boil them and while you are straining the water, run water over them to rinse off the coating. they dont have to be cool before you sterilize them.

just to make sure- you are using a pressure cooker right? if not, you should be following the tek for grains that doesn't involve a pressure cooker?

after simmering, and running water over as MsPacMan mentioned, and also agreeing with Ravinoff for a long time straining, i strain my grains more then 6 hours, sometimes 12 hours (in the fridge of course  ).... Till no water drops fall when you shake the colander.... Just another idea.........

Boiling isnt simmering!
Simmering is just below 100 Degrees. If you boil the rye, it will have a lot of broken kernels later. These will then more likely contaminate than closed kernels.

it all depends if you are spawning it or just using it as a casing on how much water you use.

i am doing jars now for spawning, so after i rinse, i stick them in the microwave to dry them out a little bit
