Eating a small dose and waiting about an hour will acclimate the body to the chemistry. Then you're free to eat vast amounts with comfort

I don't want to jynx it but 8 days after inoculation, there is a whispy (almost looks like cobweb) myc. Keeping fingers crossed that it is cinctulus myc and not cobweb. It's hard to tell right now through the plastic.
Here are the pics:
What do you think?

Yes.

Self made from a print I recieved in a trade. Now I have my own.
Sorry if I'm asking a question that was already answered here. Did you mean to say you started from a MS spore solution injected directly into the substrate? That's how I read it, but wasn't sure if that was what you meant.
Thanks for taking the time to update this thread. Great job.

No worries about the questions. Yes, I made a MS syringe and injected them as per the PF tek.

Sadly I am reporting that the cakes have developed a few black spots. It doesn't look good for the cakes made from wild spores. Looks like I'll be reverting to cleaning them up on agar (then using the agar to make a mycelium slurry to inject). Stay tuned and I'll update progress as it comes along.
On a good note, I think 2 jars that were inoculated a week before have finally germinated. Fingers crossed on those.

Well that's ok, MacMerdin; you tried and now you know that it may be necessary to do agar work to successfully cultivate this species from wild prints. Agar work is fun, and it's just a few extra steps. You'll also be able to isolate individual strains that show great health and vigor, potentially getting a better yield/pinset.

No worries. I have a couple more prints to work from. I wasn't counting on them working straight from wild spore to syringe anyway (just have been too lazy to mix up some agar......I will next week when I get time). I only sacrificed 2 cakes when I made some trops at the same time. Trops are doing well.
I also had 2 jars from a couple months ago (yes months...long story why I still had 2 jars sitting around) that I inoculated for an experiment. Either they have germinated or they have germinated cobweb. Only time will tell.

Good news on the cinctulus cakes.
What I thought were black spots haven't grown, so I'm thinking they are just substrate against the plastic. What I thought could be cobweb has now thickened and has started to produce either primordia or sclerotia (which I've heard cinctulus does). I'm going to let them consolidate for a week because I'm going away for the holiday and wouldn't be able to care for them if I "birth" before that and then we'll see at that point how they smell.
So, in other words, the cinctulus grow is still on I think.

Nice log and good job testing the lines. Its almost a grey area grow. Combination of cakes amd micro tubs or something. I love grows and trials that "grind against orthodoxy". Im doing a mini mono of some PE. If I get it maybe Ill try a mini SGFC with a cake or two. Ill definitely be following your log!

Thanks guys.
Here's an update.
I found another grow where they show the mycelium of cinctulus. It shows what I can see as spots of blue/green (almost looking like trich). Here are the pictures.....
From this thread http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/16931915#16931915
Now, I have 2 questions.
First, could it be that cinctulus is often not grown because people confuse these blue/green sclerotia for trich and then give up thinking they are always getting contamed?
Second, and most importantly.......is this the same or is it trich?
We will find out in a few days.
Anyone care to predict which one it is?

We will find out in a few days.
In other news. Spores have been germinating on agar for about 3 days now. This mycelium is fast. It covers half the plate already.

Update at day 7 in the FC for the Ziploc plastics and day 5 for the glass jars (2 of each). Both were inoculated with cinctulus spores.
Nothing showing in the jars yet at day 5.
But, to my amazement, one of the plastic bins has this in it.
I don't want to count my chicks and all, but I couldn't wait to spread the happy news.
Yippie!!!!

That's awesome MacMerdin! You might want to clone some of the larger fruits too (especially if you don't get too many fruits in total), since those phenotypes would have proven to fruit well in your particular environment. With multispore maybe it's more hit and miss indoors with this species.

Well....that little thing got about an inch long and aborted. It was the only one. I think I made my casing layer too "hot" this time with too much lime.
No worries though. More where those came from.
