Adding nutrients to dunk water?
    #1835516 -

If you were to add nutrients (donno what kind, maybe sugar?) to water that you dunk your cakes in, wouldnt that in theory help the mushrooms grow? Just wondering...

Oh, and a friend said that adding salt to the water when i sterilize my jars makes the water hotter...i dont think so, but even if it did wouldnt it make for bad growth conditions?

dunking the cakes in nutrient rich water would be a bad idea because the outside surface is open to air which is swarming with contaminants...the nutrients would attract the contaminants out of the air...the nutrients would be on top of the mycelium which would override their resistance...alternatively you could do the straw tek or inject nutrients into the cake using this tek...

as for the salt water...i don't know about that...

^^^ Agreed. Adding nutrients can be done, but right after the dunk they will be exposed to the air. Contamination can set in, especially if you use something like sugar.

If you add salt to your water to make it boil hotter, then you run the risk of drying your jars out because of the temperature difference. The water in the jars could literally boil out.
