Hello im new here so sry if im doing anything wrong and thank you for being understanding, and swim is about to get started on his first ever time experimenting with P. Cubensis "Penis Envy" to be exactly, to make the first time simple swim ordered a 20cc syringe of spores and 6 sterile Birdseed+verm jars, swim plans to colonize all 6 jars, with a success of atleast 4, with these 4 jars he plans to colonize more jars with one, colonize a bulk substrate in a Kitty litter pan, and fruit one right out of the jar. hes mostly worried about the kitty litter set up, hes not exactly in understanding of how its done(all research no experience), he just layers the bulk substrate with some broken up colonized jars in the middle, cover & put in dark space and it will colonize? hes going to be using a mixture of coco coir, coffee, and gypsum as the substrate Well pretending that will work here is what the fruiting chamber is supposed to look like as long as he mists daily and fans often this should work right?? The blue layer is peralite
Also once all of any substrate is colonized its pretty resistant to contams correct? PLEASE GIMMIE ADVICE, swim will be putting up pictures as they are takin, hes got 2 weeks to get all the "kinks" out before it arrives in the mail

Hi, and welcome to Shroomery!
First off, stop with the SWIM bs before you get seriously flamed.
Second, you have been reading really outdated material, drip shields are not used anymore.
For bulk substrates, I suggest monotubs, or trays in either a shotgun fruiting chamber, or a greenhouse.
If you are adding coffee into the mix, you will need to use proper pasteurization, which is keeping the substrate between 140-165F for 60-90 minutes.
Jars/bags/tubs/trays should colonize @ room temperature getting ambient/indirect light.
Main pinning triggers are full colonization, FAE and Evaporation off of the substrate.
Light is a secondary pinning trigger. For tropical species temperature is not a pinning factor.
Light has been proven beneficial during all stages of mycellium growth. Mushrooms like mammals have a circadian rhythm.
You want ambient/indirect light(on a 12/12 schedule preferably) for colonization and consolidation.
You want direct/intense 6500K light on a 12/12 schedule for fruiting.
Optimal temps are mid 70s throughout the whole grow, but anywhere from 65F-80F is acceptable.
Yes, a fully colonized substrate is contam resistant, to a degree.
I highly suggest reading thru all the links in my signature, this will get you caught up for sure!

well yes im also going to be doing that, but im going to attempt a monotub seeing as its flushes are more what im looking to get. Im a very good and experience Pot Farmer so i believe i should be able to figure this out with little mistakes in the process. And if i do screw up il try again

The moisture in the substrate will humidify the tub.
A bulk substrate in a monotub should contain all the moisture needed to pump out a descent first flush.
By adjusting the polyfill stuffed in the holes, one could easily fine tune the tubs and forget about them.
Hence the term, set and forget.

Ehhh - while there are similarities; comparing horticulture to mycology, is like saying "since I'm an awesome hockey player, I should be great at basketball - since they're both sports." An invalid assumption...

ohhh yea i was not comparing the two im just saying i have the dedication to figure it out..... but i mean dual thousand watt, hydroponics isnt a walk through the park. i made tons of mistakes and learned from everyone, i figure the same thing will happen with this, thats why im trying a couple methods this first time, to see what works the best. Im looking forward to the fast results, weed grows slow compared to mushies and SO MUCH ELECTRICITY. Like jesus 250$ electric bills are insane

You got that right - I was in no way, shape or form implying that cannabis cultivation is easy! It can get very technical as well AND expensive to operate; you definitely have the right attitude, best of luck on your mycological endeavors

weed is simpler in the fact you dont really need to do this much research.... i just bought the stuff and started going..... Weed methods never really change either.... i have noticed mushies gain a better newer method twice a year lol thats insane to me

Ok so im setting up a monotub now, and i cant seem to find an exact answer for this, and i did look so dont get upset with me. But does my monotub have to be clear? 95% of the time people only wrap the bottom few inches with tape to stop pinset on the sides i believe? but i have a dark blue bin already that i use for nothing, would it work fine as long as the top is clear? and has a light on it of course? I mean im not asking for IDEAL situation i just want it to work and be pretty efficient.

yup all my mono's are blue and grey as long as light cant get through the bottom . but I do like the clear tots because you don't have to mess with them to much to track progress
