Outdoor patch questions
    #18349451 - 05/31/13 02:34 PM (11 years, 7 months ago)

Well it's been a minute since I last did an outdoor grow! Wondering a few things.

First, I've got 4 quart of WBS PF Classic and 2 jars of WBS Redboy. Can I add them all to the same patch? What will happen if I do?

Second, last time I laid them over the roots of a willow and covered with damion's 50/50 coco coir tek. This time I'm laying it on top of dried grass clippings under some trees in the back yard that gets shade like 70% of the day. Is this okay with grass clippings or should I do something else to help combat contams? Do I need to use te 50/50 again with coir and verm or can I just top spawn with more clippings?

Third, should I cover with plastic sheeting to allow a "spawn run"?

Thanks for your time y'all!

From what I understand, using two different strains is not going to do anything bad to your grow, nor will it give you hybrids or anything like that.

I've been told to dig a hole, pasteurize substrate as normal, mix spawn and sub in there, topping with some grass clippings even layering on the bottom is good. Covering it with plastic sheeting for some time is good for the spawn run.

From my experience using wbs outdoors or any other grain the squirrels/deer tend to dig it up.now i just use brf cakes for the great outdoors

I know in the past I dealt with squirrels and birds taking my seeds and we do have lots of birds here. Although I can easily deter the birds away from my pat h so insects and contamination are my only real threats. Thanks for the replies guys ill be tossing this out here as soon as my girlfriends annoying little sister leaves.  Last question. Will I get both PF Classic AND Redboy harvests from this by mixing the spawn together? Or should I just keep the spawn separate but right next to each other?

From all the reading i have done here the patch will just grow them both and imo they may leach into each others harvest but will not create a cross breed but since it is going to be red boys and  a classic they should be easily distinguished from one another (not sure what the PF classic look like though still a bit new to the terminology of strains).

Really? so if I wanted to make a h/poo patch w/ straw I can just throw a fully colonized jar out in the yard and toss some h/poo and straw on it with no worries?

yep, only coir should be pasturized because it helps make it easier for the mycelium to digest

soaked strraw or foliage on top will help hold moisture in and if your mycelium has colonized everything and you wanna try fruit it just lay a see through plastic tarp over it to hold in humidity

Don't mix both strains together when you spawn them. They can be in the same patch but keep the spawn divided up

Unless you live in the desert there's always moisture in the air aka humidity. Just don't let your patch dry out.
