The channel that used to be neat
    #1834718 - 08/20/03 06:26 PM (20 years, 7 months ago)

Discovery. The channel. What the hell has happened to it in the few recent years? Shark week was aboslutly wretched, this year, to say the very least. And NOW!

Right NOW (as in now) 'they' (the hoard of eternal yodelers) are airing a program about how that princess lady (Dianne, as she is called) perished in a car accident (Or, as they want you to read into it.. a car accident CONSPIRACY) They are having multitudes of experts wasting multitudes of resources to examine every little detail and such. (Which is silly, because they know very few details... which is why they dont know what happend? Wow, a novel idea)

So, to 'prove' their ideas, as such, they decide to do an experiment with REAL cars. The princess was in a Mercedes SL280, which 'may' have hit a ford festiva (why the hell.... in europe?) Well, they decide that replacing the mercedes with a buick regal(esque) will not affect the physics at all. Right. Next, they decide to lower the supposed velocity. Again, no change in the actual physics. And again, they are on a perfectly smooth race track, identical on a molecular level as to what the road is/was like. Everything is exact. Perfect. This will be identical to what actually happened.

What the hell? Do they not understand that a peice of dust being on the road completely changes all the variables invovled? Of course, I know everything.

Please, do correct me if I'm wrong. And please, if anyone else has wittnessed this vile attempt at educational programming, tell me if i am putting my own spin on it (which i know i am.)

Have a nice day

Oh, I remember what this was about, now. Why the hell has the discovery channel become quasi-worthless as of late? You would think higher ratings (from all of their previous (read: wonderful) programs) would help them generate funds to keep improving the quality. Welcome to the world of worlds. If it doesnt make you money, dont do it.

Oh, i have a lot more to rant about, but in that case, I would change subjects randomly and non-sensically. Have a great day.

I concur. Humor is a way of life, and shall (and could never) disapoint. However, education is neat too. They are trying to make me dumb. I feel it may just be to spite me, or they dont care. Both?

Come on, FLCL (Fooly Cooly) is AWESOME! Even if it is only 6 episodes long. That is definitely one of the best shows to watch while tripping, or while not tripping. The animation is great and it is incredibly wacky. The best Shark Week ever was the one that had the sharks 3D. That way pretty cool. Of course, this years episodes of the shark attack and robo shark were kinda cool.

I was just thinking about this the other day. The Discovery channel really has become a piece of shit. It's sad. I usually watch Animal Planet or Comedy Central now.

Sarcasm in italics PLZ.

BTW, animal shows where one animal eats another are just glorified cockfighting. The fights are staged. They don't just wait around in a desert and wait till some animals start fighting. they fins two animals and them make them fight. They feed baby birds to snakes. They herd gazelles into some lions, it's all fake.

theres discovery times (discovery and new york times combined i gess), which is alot better. the last thing i got excited for on discovery was the nefertiti thing but there was too much fake suspense type stuff.

the history international channel is pretty neat too.

I don't care if the gazelle is led to the lion Mr. Hitler just so long as th elion eats him, that's what I'm paying for. What difference does it make what events let up to the violence, so long as the violence occurs?

When I was living at home we had a dish and there was a channel called I don't remember what it was calle but it was an international news channel where they showed stories from English speaking news services around the world all day. It was AWESOME, especially during the war and stuff.

It was called something News International.

Whoever said Bravo is cool is right on the money and there's another channel that is pretty good these days but I can't remember what it's called but they have a series about comedy and it's all unedited and they talk about whether or not offensive comedy is really offensive and shit like that. I haven't actually seen the show but it is right up my alley.

TNN is starting to kick some ass as well if you like girls with hoo hoos

I agree, oh, and they used a pontiac. A pontiac? hmmm, let's see a big grumman bus of a mercedes that weighs much more than a pontiac, drives better, has more saftey features, thicker glass, different tires/wheels, built better, etc. They're comparing a horse buggy to a tank? When I first saw the commercials for the show I laughed in amazement of their stupidity.

I think that Discovery is in competion with other channels so naturally they have to create/offer programming tuned to the masses.

I used to feel the same way about MTV. I am old enough to remember when MTV first came out. At first they played music videos 24 hours a day with very few commericals. Later after a few years they started airing game shows, and things like Jack Ass etc... (I did like The Osbournes)... It got so bad that I could never find a music video on MTV- So I stoped watching it...

It's sad how some networks can lose die-hard fans so quickly.
