Aww such cute acronyms! I just love when proposed legislation is in the form of an acronym, because I automatically know it's for the best intentions!
Seriously though, why don't they name it the LOSER Act? Ohhh because then people wouldn't be enthralled like they are when they hear the word "victory." What a cunning and yet incredibly lame PR ploy.

Even if it's' not an acronym, they usually label something the "save the children and kittens bill", and then if you vote against it because of incredibly bad riders or clauses, you can be labelled "anti children and kittens"

I AM anti children and kittens!
Well, not kittens. I like them.
Puppies, though, I am totally against.

"under the VICTORY Act, the Justice Department would have the power to subpoena consumer data from a business.
...from telecommunication companies, Internet service providers, and financial service firms such as banks," the group said in a press release."
Thats scary... Total information awareness indeed!...

They can, and do.

This makes me so mad. John Ashcroft is one scary man. Time to write to your representatives and stop this ever-accellerating police state.

"Attorney General John Ashcroft plans to promote both the VICTORY Act and the USA PATRIOT Act on his ten-day, 20-stop tour of America, which begins on Tuesday, Aug. 19"
with any luck, 20 days touring america will be just enough to get him assassinated.
