Thanks for the tips!

Now I'm just gonna leave it alone for a while (maybe a week) before I mash it up again. Hopefully it'll be at like 50-70% colonized by then.

I've read around here that B+ is one of the faster colonizers, but I suppose I'll just have to find out for myself!

:whathesaid: There is no one variety of cube that colonizes faster than another.

That is a noob myth. When dealing with spores, the genetic possibilities are endless, and not predictable in the least bit.

Got it. Thanks for clearing that up, guys.

Also, since I never really got an answer about this one ...

when it's sticking to the side of your leg, but they shouldn't dry out if there in a bag

The mycelia has started making a comeback after its first mash. Now it's in lots of little clumps resembling used kitty litter!

Should I shake the bag so that these balls get buried? Or just leave them alone and let nature do her thang? (My logic: More contact with the substrate instead of just air.)

I used those exact same bags the first time I started growing. You'll get fruits don't worry just forget about them. Once theres a big one about to open its veil I cut the bag and harvested it. I had good success getting multiple flushes by keeping the substrate in the bottom part of the bag with about an inch of plastic above the substrate all the way around. Then I would just water the substrate a little bit. PF cakes were much more reasonable to do than buying these bags though I wish I had just done them first.

Thanks for the advice! And yeah I'm probably doing cakes next.

More pics!

The balls of mycelia are starting to create strands between each other and join together!

Update! (20 days after inoc)

Lots of big rhizomorphic "snowflakes" have appeared on the bottom and sides of the bag, while the top is covered in "fluffy" growth. I'd take a pic but it's so hard to see anything with all the moisture on the sides of the bag! (This is healthy, right?)

Sounds good. Just wait you'll probably get at least a dry eighth off of the first flush then you can cut the bag open and put the brick of substrate, if it's fully colonized, into a fruiting chamber and get even more

21 days after inoc. I'd estimate about 75% colonized. I plan on mashing it tomorrow.

Just mashed it. Before mashing, I noticed that the substrate held its shape when I moved the bag about. Must have been a fine network of myc holding it together like that. It actually took a surprising amount of force to break it up.

I also noticed that even after a small bit of mashing and mixing, there was always a thorough amount of white visible everywhere. It didn't totally "disappear" like it did after the last two mashes. I think it's safe to say that there's more mycelia than substrate at this point.

So it's been 4 days since the last mash, and 26 days since inoculation, and I'm starting to worry. I expected it to "zoom" past where it was before after mashing, but it doesn't seem that way. The only areas that are solid white are the corners.

The bag smells fine (shroomy smell, no moldy or rotten smell). There's also condensation on the inside, which I've heard is healthy and normal.

Oh, and (I'm probably gonna get slapped for this), I've been picking the bag up and looking at it every day, sometimes twice a day. Is this bad? I try not to rough it up when I do this. I actually hold it by the coat hanger that I have it taped to. I hang it in my closet.

Should I stop moving it around to look at it and just leave it alone for a week or so? Like I said, it's been almost a month and I feel like it should have been fully colonized by now.

Whelp. 32 days after inoculation.

Why does the veil in the second pic appear to be open already? Is that one too dry? All of the others' veils are still unbroken.
