crumble BRF cake to coir, will it work?
    #7991082 - 02/07/08 10:38 AM (16 years, 1 month ago)

Question A: What are 'spent' coffee grounds?

Question B: I have about 3-4 BRF cakes that are fully colonized. I made 3 trays last night using the 50/50 tek of peat and verm.

This time, I want to try mixing it in with a bulk substrate(e.g. coir/coffee). Do I just crumble the cakes into very fine pieces and mix it in with the substrate? Then what? I let it colonize in the tray, and case it after full colonization? Will it be as a great a flush as I'm expecting?

or is it not worth the time/effort? Should I just keep doing my 50/50 methods?

Thanks in advance, champ

Yes, just put them into a ziplock bag and smoosh them around till they fall apart, pasturize your coir/coffee grinds and spawn the crumbled pfcakes.

Works great on coir/coffee grinds.

A: Spent coffee grounds are ground up coffee beans that have already been used to make coffee.

B: Manure FTW but yes, coir/coffee works just like you're saying.

So, fresh ground coffee from a pack will not work?

Just let it soak before adding?

and let me confirm, the flush will be great? How long does it take for the spawn to colonize.

Ground coffee from a pack is not spent until you make coffee with it. Don't like coffee? Don't drink it.... give it all to me.

I've seen grows on manure that look like shit. *teehee
and I've seen grows on standard pf cakes that look amazing. I've also seen great grows on coffee/coir. Look for blutjager's grows. He at least used to primarily use coffee/coir i believe.

thanks mr. pokemon-

My flushes are "OK" with peat/verm. I want something impressive/at least somewhat. Tried my hand at 4 Quarts of WBS the other weekend- no sign of colonization yet(been about 4 days).

But, until then-it would be nice to practice with coir on pf cakes b/fore i go crazy.

Here's my martha(old pic)-about 5 weeks ago:

my girlfriend and I are thinking about getting another greenhouse, LOL.

We never have any visitors-and if we do, they're cool with what we do. I'm a very paranoid person when it comes to driving, but besides that-

Where did you find that greenhouse/stand. I have hardly any room to grow and that seems like a great space saver.

I have that exact same greenhouse. I picked mine up off of Amazon:
