Cactus ID, if anyone can :)
    #1775942 - 08/03/03 03:55 PM (20 years, 8 months ago)

Ok guys, I got this at Lowes a few weeks ago. I know it is some sort of Trichocereus (sp?), but not sure wich species. Even if it isnt active it is still a cool as cactus in my opinion, but it looks like it may have some potential. I looked on erowid and couldnt find one it looked exactly like, so I will let you guys give it a shot. I did find one it looked a lot like, I cant remember what it was called tho, although it did contain mescaline and another drug. Anyway, here it is guys, thanks a lot

What prompts you to say it's Tershekii?

It's morphology looks more like a grandiflora to me than a Tersheckii as well as the spine color is completely whitish/gray which is characteristic of grandifloras as well as the diameter (part of morphology)

just that I bought one today and it looked similar but without all the arms. however that wouldn't matter because they get arms later. tersheckii are also called golden saguaro no? I am looking at grandiflorus and you could be right, probably are, and so also what the net says is no mescaline, but still a beautiful cactii. BTW tersheckii is lowest in mescaline content after grandiflorus. one would know for sure when it flowers if they are red then it's grandiflorus.

I believe it is, or atleast it looks like it, the specimens pictured above have no gold in them. That's why i say grandifloras.

That is not a tersheckii! Tershecki have big spines and big pronounced ribs, almost like a cereus... as for what that cactus is, I'm workin on it... I love my job...

yes yes!! that's why I said morphology was my biggest indicator.

I'm sticking with Grandifloras

excellent because I'm pretty sure now too that I was wrong and grandiflorus is what I bought too. Which is great because they're called "jewel of the dessert" bhecause of their bigf pink flowers.

yes beautiful cactus , i have tos of pups at the base of a few of my larger ones.. but damn they are so spiney i doubt i could cut them to replant..
PS: Dont you just hate when they hot glue a freakin straw flowerto the top? i wonder if this is a trick to get them to pup at the base.. 99% of the ones ive see at lowes have the fale straw flower on top and pups at the bottom. Or is this species of cactus just a profuse pupper??

Tershecki are supposed to have DMT in them. I was wondering if it would be enough to do anything. If it did I would like to use it in combo with an MAOI. Would this be practicle?
