Should I worry about the PH when using the 60/40...?
    #1830602 - 08/19/03 06:22 PM (13 years, 10 months ago)

I just started some WBS and want to get prepared for when thier ready! I'm going to use the 60/40 verm/coir tek to case. Should I worry about the PH of the mix? If so what should I do? Also, the tek isn't real clear on the verm/coir ratio "by volume", could someone let me know an easy way to mix? Thanks!

Coir and verm combinations are pretty close to neutral, at least in my friend's experience. He uses Bed-a-Beast, and adds a bit of oyster shell for texture and pH stabilization over several flushes. You would probably be fine without the shell.

The ratio of verm to coir isn't critical. It's easier to tell when coir is drying so he uses a bit more coir than verm.

Nah, not with verm/coir; it's close to 7.

Even with peat your mycelium will still fruit, though with peat you can optimize the conditions by adjusting the pH.

Good luck!

So whats better though in your opinions? 60 / 40 or 50 / 50? I think 60 / 40 sounds very newb friendly. Although the hongus tek (straight verm double casing), sounds like a awesomly newb casing. I want to try my first casing.....

My friend just got a crapload of pins on his popcorn casing, he did with the 60/40. He likes it so far. This is his first real casing, besides a ghetto one he did that contamed after the first flush.

theres not that much difference between 50/50 and 60/40,just make a good guess at the ratio and you'll be fine.coco coir and be hard to judge cause it expands so much when you add water, but you'll get used it.
