5 strains to choose from! Which shall I use?
    #1829448 - 08/19/03 01:45 PM (14 years, 9 months ago)

Hello everyone,

I have 5 different strains to choose from. They are: PESA, EQ, B+, Lipa Yai, and Pink Buffalo. I'm a complete beginner to growing mushrooms and I really don't know the pros and cons of particular strains other than B+, which does well in many different conditions. Which strain do you think I should use for my first grow and why? Yield isn't a factor, I'm just worried about contams and all the other beginner problems. I will be using BRF in 10 1/2 pint jars and just fruiting them cake style because I need some experience before casing.

Thanks!

Strain is simply a personal preference, there is so little difference between them that it's pretty much insignificant

The only variation I could see that would make a big difference would be whether it makes big mushrooms, or small mushrooms and lots of them

I would go with Pink Buffalo they seem to love BRF cakes.

FAQ: http://www.shroomery.org/index/par/23248

That said, I'd suggest a beginner start with Equador. It's hearty, forgiving of errors, and pins and fruits easily. Even so, the differences between Equador and any of the others is slight at best.

Good luck!

Lipa Yai is a fast colonizer.

Put them in a bag, mix them up, and use whichever one you come up with.

EQ or B+ would be my advice.... They both are easier to cultivate in a way.... But there's no big deal with the others also.... I seem to agree with shakta... Whatever your choice will be, don't forget to "stick to the TEK"..... Good Luck!....

I'm glad that my choices are easy to make.

Do I use the spores from the wild mushroom that I picked in a field or the spores from the wild mushroom that I picked in a field.

Whats hard about EQ`s? they were my first an were really easy and very potent...I just got 2 nice prints from another shroomerite an am looking foward to having another go with them. I am not gonna be giving any of these away with this grow cause every grower should have some EQ stuck away for special occasions...
