Substrate substitucion

uhm , where i live its almost imposible to get vermiculite , here they just dont even know it , so i have the problem of the substrate , i have straw , rye , dung all of those stuff , but i dont have vermiculite , if any one could give me a tip on another mixture for a subtrate that is easier to get :laugh:

u can always order verm form the net man, that's what my afoaf does

the problem is that i have a bunch of ordering dificulties,im hoping that there is some good substitucion for verm

You could innnoculate the rye or some WBS and spawn it to the poo and straw.

If you have rye berries and a pc, then you don't need verm as a substrate. Except verm IS used in every casing mixture I've ever heard of, but it isn't absolutley necessary to case.

ok so you say i could just make a nice mix out of poo straw and rye and inoculate that , and after just case it , just as is , without puting extra stuff?

If i were you I would innoculate jars of rye grain and then allow to colonize then spawn to poo straw.. case with coco coir and a little oyster shell.. that should work.. but my friend has never tried using just coco coir as a casing ..

i recently found this thign called "mica" they say its a substitute for vermiculite, does any one know about it?

vermiculite - mica ....... notice anything? one is made from the other - vermiculite is expanded mica. the thing is, though, verm is so good because it absorbs water. does your mica? if so.....
