California gas prices
    #1828020 - 08/18/03 10:54 PM (13 years, 7 months ago)

Gas prices per gallon in SoCal have rised about 18 cents in four days and almost 30 cents in the last week. (approaching two bucks a gallon) This has been blamed primarily on a pipeline problem in Pheonix.

Two questions: 1, do you think this rise of nearly 30 cents per gallon can be explained by a a pipeline problem?

2, do you think higher prices are good in some way?

I just moved out of SoCal... last time I checked premium was $2.12/gal.

In NorCal, near San Fran where I live now, it's about $2.30/gal for premium.

1. I'm not sure, I haven't been keeping up with pipelines.
2. Depends on the perspective. The obvious answer is that people will be using less gasoline, thus less pollution. Keep the list going...

I think more people should use motorcycles (and other 1-2 people vehicles) more often.

Partially, oil companies will redirect some of their shipments from So Cal to areas which will get more profit or to keep supplies going to those whom they have contracts with. This of course will reduce the availability of the commodity in southern California, leading to higher prices. There may be other factors which are working to raise fuel prices on the world markets and not just So Cal, so there may be a confluence of factors.

To an extent, higher prices may prompt a reduction in consumption. My guess is that this effect will be minimal and mainly work against leisure travel and primarily for those with less disposable income. Higher prices paid by commercial vehicles will eventually be either passed on to the consumers in the form of higher prices for goods transported or they may just reduce the profits of the shipping companies.

Raising Gass prices is the EASIEST way to make a buck...

Special interest groups, big government and others who actually control the peritoneum industry can make an additional billion dollars per day just at the pump by raising the price 5 cents per gallon...

Want to run covert ops into foreign countries? Want to secretly fund the overthrow of another nations government? Want to secure your candidates spot in the up coming ellections? Just raise the price for two weeks and in California alone youll have enough money to do it all.

1. I think a "pipeline problem" definitely explains it..... Maybe they "need" to BUILD a pipeline there  "the problem was, your honor, that we didn't have a pipeline there.."

lol never think things like that don't happen.. heh probably not the case, and easily researchable, but I'm too lazy to check it out

Insert an "I think" mentally in front of eveything I say that seems sketchy, because I certainly don't KNOW much. Also; feel free to yell at me.
