very quick casing question
    #1826920 - 08/18/03 05:23 PM (13 years, 3 months ago)

Hypothetically, if someone had a casing that was getting four to six hours of indirect sunlight a day and whose environment was varying between 75-80F, about how long would it ordinarily take for pins to form? Are the timespans involved similar to cakes?

Is that 10-14 days after the casing has been decanted into the fruiting chamber? That's already happened, hypothetically speaking of course.

just depends on strain and substrate, not all cubensis are the same; just make sure that humid & temp are right and GIVE IT SOME TIME. most of all, dont fuck with it constantly, just begging for contams that way.

I hypothetically try to be patient, but the hypothetical casings have hypothetically continued to produce more little patches of mycelium on the surface of the casing layer since I hypothetically stuck them in the fruiting chamber. I'm hypothetically worried that I waited too long and that I might get overlay problems.

fruiting conditions require 70 degrees F. not 75-80

74 - 78 if you wanna be picky, quoting the mushroom growers' bible (TMC)

75-80 is a good enough compromise

Patch the spots where mycelium pops up, and be patient.

Assuming anyone is still paying attention to this thread, I created these images in photoshop that show what my hypothetical casings might look like. I'm just that good.

The second one especially concerns me. What really bothers me, and I'm not sure if this comes across in the pictures, is that the mycelium doesn't look very good - sort of dry and crumbly. I can't verify the texture because I haven't touched it. Anyway, what should I (hypothetically) do about this?
