Habitat and Season of Copelandia cyanescens
    #18259079 - 05/13/13 05:35 PM (10 years, 9 months ago)

Big hello to the Shroomery

I have some Questions about the Habitat and Season of Copelandia cyanescens in the southern USA.

What breeds of cattle are you finding most associated with Copelandia cyanescens in the Southern USA? Bos indicus cattle are characterized by a large hump over the top of the shoulder and neck. Or Bos taurus (European) species Or Taurus x indicus hybrids.

What kinds of grasses are in the fields? And how tall is the grass?

How dose the fruiting Season of Copelandia cyanescens start and length, compare to the fruiting Season of Psilocybe cubensis

Any tips you can tell me about hunting for Copelandia cyanescens.

Thanks for your time.

I recently seen this on the Shroomery

I saw this on the Shroomery where Mjshroomer said;
Quote:

Copelandia cyanescens.

This species can be found in the tropics and neotropics of both hemispheres.

From southern Georgia to Florida and west to Texas and southern Oklahoma. The Caribbean, Mexico, Central and South America. Numerous islands in the Pacific and Oceanea, in Australia and New Zealand, in Sri Lanka and South and Southeast Asia and the Philippine Islands and also in Southern parts of Europe and various locations in Africa.

It's spores and sporeprint are jet black and the gills are blackish with light white edges. This mushroom is coprophilous growing in the dung of four-legged ruminants.

Also common in manured soil in habitats where manure is spread on the ground and used for fertilizers.

I am not a newbe, I am a old moldy shroomery member from way back.
I am the first person to report that Psilocybe cubensis grows in Oklahoma

Since posting this (12 years, 5 months ago) quite a few people have found Psilocybe cubensis in Oklahoma.
That gives me a warm shroomey feeling!

I think Copelandia has now been lumped in with Panaeolus.

Does Panaeolus cyanescens always share a habitat with Psilocybe cubensis? I remember reading about a guy who found Pan cyanescens in Switzerland but I don't think Psilocybe cubensis has ever been found there. They might not always grow in the exact same location.

Welcome back to the shroomery

I would be surprised if Panaeolus cyanescens grew in Oklahoma.  It's a bit pickier about its subtropical habitat than Psilocybe cubensis is.

Is it true that they prefer slightly lower temps than cubes? What range?

I think the opposite is true - Panaeolus cyanescens likes it warmer.

Could just be the fields I go to but down here in Houston I always seem to find more Pan cyans than cubes.  Also I have found Pan cyans in 95+ degree weather and never found cubes in weather that hot.  So that could mean Pan cyans like hotter weather than cubes or as stated before could just be the fields I go to.

If Panaeolus cyanescens does grow in Oklahoma, it would be in Southeast Oklahoma

Southeast part of the state of Oklahoma has alligators and is in the “humid subtropical climate Zone”

Indoors Panaeolus cyanescens is faster in both its growth rate and it’s fruiting and it likes higher temp than Psilocybe cubensis to.

Indoors; Psilocybe cubensis is slow compared to Panaeolus cyanescens.
Panaeolus cyanescens is fast and I think would not need as long of a wet period before it could fruit in the wild.

Here in Southeast Oklahoma Psilocybe cubensis needs a long wet period, before it will fruit, this happens in late fall. I have never seen Psilocybe cubensis in the summer here.

Panaeolus cyanescens do fruit easier with less rain and faster than Psilocybe cubensis from what I have seen.  Also, I personally think the Panaeolus genus as a whole mature faster indoors and outdoors.  Which in turn, is why I think I end up with full grown, getting close to sun dried Panaeolus and Psilocybe cubes just breaking the veil or still veiled.

Mind you I have no scientific knowledge really about mushrooms and just stating what I have seen based on observations over the last couple years of hunting...

I cannot find much info on the Habitat and Season of Pan. cyanescens in the southern USA

In my home psychedelic Library  I have info on Pan. Cyanescens in Asia

I want to hear from the mushroom hunters.:mushroom2:
