[Pan Cambo] grow log & questions

Hello all,
After a few Cub grows, here is my second attempt to grow Paenolus Cyanescens.
The first time failed, i think, because the - from a dutch growshop - was sterile (absotulely no sign of germination after 1.5 month).
For the second time, i have a from <edit: a sponsor>. Using the modified pf tek (1/1/1/1 BRF/Verm/Poo/Water).
The jars are in incubation since 14 days at 82 (+/-2)°F. Here is :

Seems to be good for the moment ^^
Now, just a few question for the next:
- I'd like to avoid to bulk the jars with a substrate (to minimize contam): I already have manure in the jars, so is it ok? - tight or large trays? - I will case with 50/50 verm/peat + lime. What is the utility of peat? - for the casing is it usefull to add gypsum? and what form of gypspun (I have gypsum in powder but i wonder if it will be good to add it instead of granular gypsum). - I saw lots of contradictory info about grow parameters. Are these parameters now "officialy" set? (Temperature for fruiting, humidity)
Other pics soon (and i hope a good harvest! )

Remove the vendor names from your post please. Our sponsors sell spores for microscopy use only.

I would say more but I have yet to successfully grow cyans. My only attempt did not succeed

My tray stalled out and never produced fruits. 99% sure it was a bacterial contam, but I also didn't know how to dial in a greenhouse to save my life at the time.

Pans can be successfully grown in a SGFC inside the jars if cased.
What I did was scraped the dry verm layer off the top and cased with a very thin layer of 50/50 + and then buried the jars up to the top in the perlite. I figured that there would be more humidity and fresh air exchange at the surface of the perlite. And it worked. They have continued to fruit for a few weeks now (first attempt at them).
For misting, don't mist directly or the pins will abort. To keep the casing layer moist, I use a dropper and then just mist the entire SGFC upwards so fine mist gets blown around, fan and then mist the same way again.
Here are just a few of the results:

Good luck.

Three cakes have yielded about 5 grams (dry) so far and still going.
Doesn't sound like much but when you figure 1 gram is about the same as 5-7 grams of cubes it works out to be the equivalent to 25-35 grams of cubes from 3 cakes.
Not too bad if you ask me.

I used the same (store bought poo-hummus though) but with the addition of a pinch of gypsum and 1 tablespoon spent coffee. I have another batch consolidating right now that I added a little bit of worm castings to the mix (I'll let you know how that one goes).
To your questions:
Quote:
- I'd like to avoid to bulk the jars with a substrate (to minimize contam): I already have manure in the jars, so is it ok?
Just case them in the jars and bury them in the perlite like I described above.
Quote:
- tight or large trays?
Can skip this step. No trays needed.
Quote:
- I will case with 50/50 verm/peat + lime. What is the utility of peat?
The peat gives beneficial bacteria to the casing layer. That's why it is pasteurized and not sterilized. Pans need this bacteria to fruit and help keep away contams. At least that is what I have gathered from it.
Quote:
- for the casing is it usefull to add gypsum? and what form of gypspun (I have gypsum in powder but i wonder if it will be good to add it instead of granular gypsum).
Gypsum is a nutrient. Use it in the substrate next time but don't use it in the casing layer.
Quote:
- I saw lots of contradictory info about grow parameters. Are these parameters now "officialy" set? (Temperature for fruiting, humidity)
According to most information around here, I shouldn't even be able to grow cubes. Yet cubes and pans have worked for me. Just remember that pans like slightly lower humidity than cubes (not 100%) and some fresh air with a slightly higher temp.
Good luck.

Unfortunately i can't follow your method (bury the cakes in perlite) because i can't find perlite in town!
I think i will crumble the cakes and case in trays and apply a peat/verm layer.
Hope to have 5g dry!! Even 1g would make me happy.

You can still just case them in the jars whichever FC you have. I've seen them in pmp's successfully this way too.
As a beginner to these, I opted for the casing in jar method instead of bulk. Less chance of contamination IMO.
Again, good luck with your project.

You can use hydroton (clay pellets for hydroponics) or lava rocks sitting in water with an airstone and airpump (fishtank pump).
Look up "poor man's pod" for some ideas.
http://www.shroomery.org/9047/Poor-Mans-Pod
I've heard of sphagmum moss working also.
A trusted cultivator could be more of help than me for this question as I still use a SGFC.

update: maybe a pssibility to fond perlite in town, will see that tomorrow.
Correction about the strain: it's Panaeolus Camboginiensis Sandoz and not Cyanescens. But it teems to be just little differences between the 2 strains.

Good luck. They really are "as easy as cubes" once you dial them in. Thanks stonesun for the inspiration.

update: opened the jars today. There is a good mushroom smell( ), but the inside of the jars seems to be not fully colonized. When i crumbled the cakes, i saw that it's probably because the mix is very compact and sticky. (The mix was: 1 part verm, 1 part BRF, 1 manure 1 water and a few powder of gypsum).
I dropped it in a tray , misted and placed a foil on it. Hope it will recover.... But not very optimist
