A shopworker who had feelings for a fellow worker which were not returned decapitated himself, the Bridgend, south Wales, coroner recorded yesterday. David Wackett, 25, tied a nylon rope around his neck and to a lamp-post and drove off in his car, the court heard. As he drove away the rope tightened, tearing his head from his body.
Nadine Jones, for whom Mr Wackett had a "soft spot", saw his car and thought it had crashed. She telephoned the B&Q store where they worked and other staff went to see what had happened.
One, Gareth West, said in a statement: "I saw a body in the driver's seat with its arms by its side. There was no head attached to the body at all. The body had a seatbelt on."
A receipt for a rope, bought from B&Q with a staff discount two days earlier, was found, along with a suicide note.
Ms Jones's statement read: "I had no physical feelings for him and classed him as a friend. I think his feelings had intensified over recent weeks."
The coroner, Philip Walters, said that the method used was described on a website but there was no evidence to suggest that Mr Wackett had ever looked at it. "I find it quite incredible that websites like this which tell you how to commit suicide in so many different ways should be allowed to exist," he said.
-------------------- You cannot legislate the poor into prosperity by legislating the wealthy out of prosperity. What one person receives without working for another person must work for without receiving. The government cannot give to anybody anything that the government does not first take from somebody else. When half of the people get the idea that they do not have to work because the other half is going to take care of them and when the other half gets the idea that it does no good to work because somebody else is going to get what they work for that my dear friend is the beginning of the end of any nation. You cannot multiply wealth by dividing it. ~ Adrian Rogers
