True enough, but this is what we do. TV is a prime example and going to work at the same job forever and all the rest.

The human race is destroying this planet just as it is supposed to, we are a form of cancer and this earth is our cell, it is our purpose. We should pat ourself on the backs, we are accelerating and doing a good job. Don't be scared of your destructive goal

I'd like to think we are more like mycelium than cancer. The structure of the internet is actually very similar to mycelium's structure. Also mycelium transmits information about its environment very far in a very short time.
Also, mycelium eventually produces fruit (mushrooms), whereas cancer does not. Do you believe it is our destiny to crumble?

I live inland as well currently. And to be honest I wonder if there are any laws inhibiting this sort of thing.
But think about the potential, for ALL that plastic crap we have produced.
Although I do wonder also how durable these islands would be, for long term purposes.
oh, it was rather delusional of me not to add that building is not really my forte.
Another random hypothetical thought is, lets say you did manage to build one of these islands, it is sound, and the shit does hit the fan. I would say that you would have to be prepared to defend your island. As in the possible chaos it is likely other people would attempt to take it.

On May 9, the daily mean concentration of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere of Mauna Loa, Hawaii, surpassed 400 parts per million (ppm) for the first time since measurements began in 1958.
