Can you fruit 1pint Millet Jars as you do 1/2pint?
    #1161662 - 12/22/02 06:06 AM (21 years, 1 month ago)

Say someone has got a bunch of 1 pint jars that are colonized. The medium inside all of hte jars is millet seed and water.

As I said, they are all 100% colonized. Now, my friend wants to put these colonized birdseed cakes into a terranium with 100% humidity and fruit them like he does with his 1/2 pint brown rice jars.

Can you birth 1 pint millet cakes as you would with 1/2 pint brf cakes, or is there some unknown procedure?

thanks
all I say is bull shit

If your pint jars are widemouth then you can do it, I've never done it, but I've seen pictures, and reports, so its possible, but just to be sure, go to the search function and do a search for birdseed or millet cakes.

The reason millet is used is because it breaks up easily. This allows the bulk mass to be shaken up and the mycelia to spread through out it. It also allows it to be broken up and used to inoculate bulk substrates. The BRF cake is designed to "harden up" and never gets shaken. I'd recommend casing the WBS with a 50/50+
