Invisable contams
    #1824183 - 08/17/03 10:46 PM (13 years, 3 months ago)

well, i have 8 jars which i have not cleaned out of my incubater that never germinated. They didn't do anything. Theres no sign of contams but i'm assuming that something is in there. I would really like to keep the jars but am scared of illness.
Is it safe to clean jars these jars?
and if so how? or possibly a link to a faq for cleaning contaminated jars
any help would be great
thanks

If the jars never showed any noticable growth, it is likely that they were just too dry. In any case, cleaning contaminated jars isn't a big deal. Correct me if I'm wrong, but in general it's the eating of contaminated shrooms that is most likely to make you sick, not simply breathing the air around them...

I just rinse with soap and water using a different sponge than the one I wash my dishes with. I sterilize each batch with a pressure cooker too, so it has never been a problem.

Yeah, while breathing the air some of the contams gives off can make you sick, its the eating of toxic byproducts in the fruit bodies that is the real worry (or at least by my understanding)

I clean out the contaminated jars, run them through the dishwasher, fill with substrate, and PC. If this isn't enough for some people, then they have very resiliant contaminating infections.
