No PC substrate?
    #1823526 - 08/17/03 07:06 PM (14 years, 10 months ago)

What types of substrates are available to use without a PC, besides BRF?

I'm basically trying to find an alternative to grain, WBS, popcorn/cracked corn, etc, which all require PCing...to which I have none. I tried hominy for awhile, but supposedly the insides don't completely colonize.

Any suggestions?

You could try fractional sterilization:

any reason? There are probably a lot more substitutes out there, but BRF is pretty standard. do a search, but unless you can't get BRF, (which is just regular brown rice for $.99 which you can take to the grocery store and use their coffee grinder) i guess do a search for something else.

Ah, fractional sterilization, missed that in the FAQ. Thanks ;p

Pacman - just wanna do a more easily bulked spawn, BRF takes time to mix, supplies are more expensive than, say, cracked corn, which you can get for (I've heard) $5 for a 10-pound bag. That's a lotta substrate ;p
