Dreadlock Pictures...
    #1821937 - 08/17/03 02:41 AM (20 years, 7 months ago)

I'm concidering getting dreadlocks. My girlfriend is being really supportive of the idea which I find really amazing. The thing is most of the pictures she's seen of white people with dreadlocks are of people with not so well kept and not so nice looking dreads and it makes her kind of nervous. I've only been able to find a few good pictures to reassure her. I was wondering if anyone had any pictures of white people with nice looking well kept dreads that you could post. Here's some pics that I have that I think look good.

Thanks a lot.

Also on a side note I think this is my hundreth post...

it aint easy. you won't get them like blacks. make sure you do it the correct way. buy some dread wax. no home made shit. My brother has them. don't think your going to be able to wash your hair every day. once a week at most. they hold water.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!! DIE DREADLOCKS DIE!!!

I know you may -think- it looks cool, but it looks terrible and unclean. It's a hassle, it's high maintenance, and white people look AWFUL in it.

Here's a recent rant about them by Jim Goad:

- Trustafarian Vibration -

The albino tarantulas crawl through Southeast Portland, using their trust funds to emulate poverty. Jah good. Jah love dem. Jah make dem feel irie. Jah know dat if dey walk two blocks out de tourist section of Kingston, dey get dey white brains blasted onto de cracked sidewalk.

Dreadlocks?the ugliest hair style ever known?look like clusters of dried dog poop. Reggae?the worst musical format ever invented?sounds like a rusty toilet which has trouble flushing. But if you're sitting in the squalor of Jamaica, at least these things have some resonance for you. On the other hand, if you're walking around the Pacific Northwest in a Vanilla Marley costume, you just look like a douche. Suicidal Caucasian insanity has reached the point where "authenticity" is only achieved by absurdly INAUTHENTIC fashion maneuvers.

There's a reason the Third World came in third."

I love that end quote.

I've noticed that all the Bay Area trance DJs seem to have dreadlocks.

dreds are good when they are a manifestation of a persons spirituality, not as a transient "fashion". I think alot of white people's dreds are nasty though... YOU'RE SUPPOSED TO KEEP DREDS CLEAN! just no conditioner. lotsa soap, no comb. of course, this won't work if you're 100% white.. so... I guess white people use wax? does this really work?

i think it looks nice if you keep them really clean. this kid in my class has them, and they smell really bad and look like shit, but in the beginning of the year, they were nice.

I had every intension of keeping them clean, and I know there is quite a bit of maintanance to them. I wasn't wanting them to somehow look cool or trendy, as most people I know don't find them that attractive. I just feel they fit me. I'm very familiar with the process I wasn't really looking for anyone to inform me about how it goes. My hair is fairly curly and tangles far too easily so I'm not really worried about it working, actually if I leave my hair to do it's thing it kind of goes towards dreads anyway, which is kind of a pain when you're not trying for dreads. Oh course the neglect method wasn't the route I was planning on taking. Still almost no one has posted any pics, anyone else have any? Thanks a lot to everyone though.

You'll find good pictures and good all natural dread care products at www.knottyboy.com.

i've had mine for two years and they're clean, soft, they smell pretty, and everyday i love'm just a little bit more...  i haven't run across much bad sentiment in my neck of the woods (twin cities) except for dissaproving sighs from family members and maybe Malachi's post .

Malachi- btw, are you a member of the Malachi Constant?

I'm without pics, but I've had dreds for over a year and I'm pretty happy with em. I put up with a lot of Sideshow Bob shit and the occasional Drive-By Yelling, but thats small-town life for you. They're no more a pain in the ass than my 'normal' hair was. I never used wax, but my hair tangles like a bitch anyway, so when I decided to dred I just kept my tangles seperate and worked on em whenever I had a spare moment.
