Myself, I think what he says holds more true to me than what you said.

A human doesn't have to live a life of deceipt. That is up to us. I mean, we are all imperfect, we all make mistakes, but nowhere does it say that we have to tell and live lies, that is our CHOICE.

We might be individuated from everyone else, but only us make that seperateness. Technically, we are all One, and I fully welcome the fact that I am just as much related to Adolph Hitler and Jeffery Dalmer than I am to my mom, Ram Dass, and you. W

We all have different paths we can take, and their paths weren't so favorable to the rest of us, but that doesn't deny them the common link that makes us all One. To despise them and seperate them is to despise and to seperate all of us... if it came down to you, and you had to decide to forgive them or not, would you?

Everyone's point of awareness is the same. The fact that we are conscious proves that. Anything else that we identify with has nothing to do with our awareness. It is simply behind all of that.

Evil does not exist, man. You only choose to identify certain traits as evil. You make it exist. It is all up to you..
Peace.

We live in deceipt. We tell lies. We hear lies. We live lies. If I am one with Adolph Hitler and Jeffrey Dahmer, let my end come now. I am not like them, nor shall I ever be. Humans are individuated physically, mentally, and spiritually - although we have a great deal in common. My 'point of awareness' is certainly not the same point of awareness as the rest of you,

I haven't read the book, but I think the oneness is supposed to be understood like this: if you take a pizza and cut it up into a number of slices, each and every slice will have it's own particular orientation and arrangement of ingredients. All slices have individuality, but taken together the parts form a unified whole. Some pizza slices may be badly burned or may contain bits of spoiled meat or have other defects. Those are the Hitler and Dahmer slices.

And if pizza-bread could think, the pizza slices would say to themselves: My essence is pizzaness. If all my toppings were scraped off, this pizzaness essence would remain in my inner core, which consists of pizza-bread. This inner core is the same for every slice of pizza.

To stretch the analogy a bit further, imagine that pizza-bread has the magic ability to move around toppings and to rearrange them in new ways. Then one could split the pizza in yet another way, different from the slices: one part that only contains the sections that are busy improving the toppings (the good part), and another part that contains the rest (the bad part). But this partition does not necessarily follow the previous slice boundaries. There may be a bit of both in every slice.

I'll stop here before I exhaust the pizza analogy. And also because writing this post made me hungry..

I like Alperts work. I think by oneness with god Alpert means that we are connected to the same source of energy. When someone obtains this realisation and directly experiences the unity of our beings, that person drops the seperation between him and everything else.

I like Alperts work, and so far I agree with everything he has said. Although not everyone is at the same awareness level, we are connected to the same source of energy.

Alpert spent a lifetime meditating and perfecting consciousness, yet when he had a stroke, he lay on the floor unable to move for 12 hours, the whole time denying that anything was wrong with him. "I can get up if I want to."

Now THAT is awareness.

  That was great, explanation of a spiritual concept by the pizza analogy.  Is there anything it doesn't work for? hehe.

Maybe he could of... hehe. Anyways, that kind of attitude would help a lot better than the alternative.. perhaps he knew that he couldn't, but kept that attitude to help him along... who knows?
Peace.

I thought it was the stroke that made Alpert want to meditate? And all the doctors told him he wouldn't be able to talk, but he ended up doing it?

Who knows? Alpert does as he stated it quite directly in his book, "Still Here."

Also, when I said not everyone has that kind of awareness, I was referring to Enters post about not beleiving we are all one. If what Swami says is true and Alpert denied anything was wrong with him. First of all his awareness allowed him not to suffer. Second of all, I am willing to guess that at the time of the stroke he might have been delusional, which is why he thought he could get up. The brain is very complex, I am sure all sorts of weird things can happen if you have a stroke. But he has learnt how to live with his paralysis with a great joy for life.

Methinks it was more ego than brain damage that caused his blindness to his condition. ("This can't possibly be happening to me!")
