Straw Casing question
    #1821774 - 08/17/03 03:19 AM (14 years, 3 months ago)

My buddy is doing a casing using colonized straw as the spawn..... If he puts colonized straw in a casing container and puts it in a terrarium, should he put a layer on top (such as cow dung) for the mycelium to colonize and fruit off of? Any feedback would be helpful.

You don't want a nutritive casing layer.

I would use 60/40 coco coir tek or 50/50.

One of these is best IMO

casing layer: yes

cow poo: No

a simple 50/50 or 60/40 will do.

You dont want your casing layer to contain nutrients. Check out Joshua's Casing Mix 101, it gives a good over view of what a casing layer should be, and how to make it.
