Hi all, I have access to tissue culture grade liquid media such as RPMI, DMEM, SOC... Can any of this be used for liquid culture of cubes? I've searched the forums and not found anything on this. Thanks!

No. Tissue culture media is for growing their specific types of tissue, not fungi.
The best medias for mycology can be easily made for pennies. Don't go misappropriating expensive stuff that won't work.

Ok, thanks. I know that the media can sustain fungus, but that's usually a contam in normal tissue culture experiments.

we use SOC and LB liquid media in my lab to grow some fungi. LB we use occasionally in yeast assays, but SOC is used in several of our protocols. Theyre not the best media all around, but they work well enough for some situations. I should note that we mix them up our selves, rather than using ultra high grade stocks.
Call it an experiment. They work fine for ascomycetes, may be worth a try to see how the basidio fellows like em.
THAT SAID
RPMI and DMEM are waaaaay over board for what fungi need. It would be a waste of money and resources to use them. Dont bother.
You can get light malt extract for a couple bucks a pound, and it works great for most applications, so I wouldnt really bother with others in most situations.

Fungi will grow on almost anything. I grew a LB plate out once, it worked but had piss poor performance.
