Still naked!
    #1820641 - 08/16/03 07:19 PM (13 years, 9 months ago)

Here we are. Naked at first, then clothed and taught the perceptions of our "forefathers". Taught what is acceptable and what is not.

And as if that were not direction enough, there is also this thing called "survival instinct". Remmember the "survival filter" that was discussed some threads ago?

Well, after a lifetime of having my body clothed by society I still feel naked everytime I stand in front of a mirror before washing myself.

After a lifetime of being clothed perceptually by society I still feel naked whenever I look into the mirror of my mind.

When I was young I assumed that someone would give me the answers when I was old enough to understand them.At thirty years old I am still waitng...and still naked.

I have always considered myself a seeker, but lately I have begun to think of myself as a skeptic. Maybe we were meant to die as we were born......naked.

what u said was quite moving by the way.
i can relate to that feeling...
My Mom's answer to all my early
inquisitive childhood existential
question was inevitably "because mommy sez so"...
i too expected that it would become clearer
some day... u'd like The quote from Fight Club
"I'm a 30 year old *boy*". We're shrink wrapped
by society to fit in.

I read this post before u deleted it (i guess
u read my next post). i honestly meant no disrespect
at all...
I sometimes verge on being flippant in my remarks,
i just get easily amused and trust that if i share
my trifling comments with others they'll understand
cause they know that's my nature. Very few of my posts
are serious. I find it better to not take things very
seriously, especially life and heady topics. Something
about the whole "cheerful indifference" (alluding to
Castenada here) attitude seems very Spiritual to me.
But I respect that others take their Spirituality
more seriously.
Peace

The whole metephor of being Neked in relation to
Spirituality...just thought of the phrase "Intellectual
Masturbation" (no offense here, the though just popped
into my head) and that spawned some funny visuals of
how sometimes Spiritual people (again no inference to
u whatsoever - but I've met such people) get ensnared
by what I would call "Spiritual Masturbation" (forgive
the disrespectful term). That would be when one goes into
"Seek Mode" in full "Guru Sydrome Gear" and starts
regurgitating one New Age cliche after another, bandying
around terms like bliss, love, compassion and awe when
they've never experienced it but simply like the words.
They'll talk about how beautiful nature is and stop by
Niagra falls or on a clear star studden night and say
"isn't that *nice* ?" and then head on off to the mall
to buy the latest matching sofa set... not to be judgemental
here, I'm a Depressed/Anxious/Useless mass of protoplasm
myself...but ones actions indicate belief stronger than
words. So to sum up, my amusement was completely self generated as
is often the case  nothing to do with u and no disrespect meant

I think too much... it's the worst of afflictions :frown:
growing up they keep teaching u how to think till
u grow up and can't stop...then u spend the rest of
your life trying to stop thinking, quite ironic
thinking is useful indeed, but only when directed by
Awareness, unfortunately it's usually the other way
around - i.e. thinking directing everything and clouding
Awareness into oblivion. This summer in the throes of
Depression and Anxiety I didn't even notice the flowers
come out in Spring or just how soft and green everything
was getting... I was just caught up in my own emotional
pain and existential angst... if I could have just dropped
all of that and just "seen" I would have realized just how
amazing and beautiful the world is...just as I used to know.
Hopefully, someday I will recover that ability, the ability
which I had to be moved deeply by all that is...to the point
where u feel your heart is ready to explode and there is no
more room in your soul to hold the joy and it comes pouring
out in tears...

Nothing to do with me?

I do not fit any of that! I grew up in a household that believed in nothing! I started thinking about "spiritual things" when I was old enough to think for myself. Maybe that is what makes me different? I had nothing to build on. Nothing!!!

I still don't see your amusement. What are you trying to tell me?

yup, nothing at all to do with u, u must understand
it was a spawn of thoughts in my head. Remember that
everyone thinks differently, this is a suprising realization
that came to me recently. I'm obsessive and my thoughts
are often overactive, leaping from one thing to another,
for someone who doesn't think like this it's hard to see
how one can go from one thought to something completely
unrelated so quickly. My bad for impulsively posting the
first thing in my head, but I'm very free on this forum that's
what I like about it. I hope u'll accept my appology and
understand where I'm comming from.

I have had so many people dismiss what I feel as trivial I guess I overreacted. My family don't understand, so I feel that noone else will.

You are my friend! If you like it or not.

u are far from trivial my friend
people probably dismiss what u say cauze they can't relate to it.
often I impulsively outburst into a "Wow" or something expressive
when I see a stunning Moon or Lake or something and people often
give me "the look", u know, the "are u high or something" look.
Don't be discouraged, trust yourself, there is much much right
in u, and in everyone else for that matter, but most people are
just swept up by life and the rat race. I've simply had the
misfortune/fortunate (depending on how u look at it :smirk:)
of having my life turned upside down so that I could see it crumble
and try to understand it better. I've also had an early fascination
and inclination for the mystical and devine, and I've had a slight,
very slight taste, just a tease, a trickle but just enough to taste,
of what it feels like to have unattached peace.
It's been so long now, but I hope that memory
never fades...I often doubt that it even happened lately, but I hope
it did.
