help please - agar (shitake, oyster) to honey to ....?

i have agar plates of pleurotus and shitake (thanks Paid). the oysters already failed once (agar to grain in mycobag went funky). this time i want to make liquid inoculum, but have never done this before. i?ve never fruited either strain either, and have birdseed, millet, straw, horsepoo and bran, but no woodchips or sawdust. they?ll be grown indoors.
i plan to put a teaspoon of honey in a jar of water and pc it. when cool, i want to put a few flecks of agar in there. if and when it goes cloudy, i?ll add some peroxide, and swirl. a couple days later i?ll draw up 5ccs and squirt into a pced grain/straw jar. i want to do this on monday (day off).
what else do i need to do? add poo to jars? any tips gratefully received. i?m a newbie, flame me !

a teaspoon of honey to 100 ml. h2o will get you close enough to the 4% range . add h2o2 to medium before you inoculate , 1 ml 3% h202 to 100 ml honey water . it may shock live mycelium, but it will recover . (this works with karo and dextrose i haven't tried honey .) the purpose of this is to keep any air born spores from germinating . do up 3 or 4 small jars to insure success . never heard of using poo for either oysters, or Shiitake . get some sawdust . where would you like my flame ? in those hot pants ? the made me do it .

add peroxide to jar before adding agar? ok
sawdust i'll try to get from a petshop. how much sawdust, and mixed with what? any special procedures to get the moisture right before pcing? anything else in the jar besides sawdust? 1/2 pint jars or bigger? pftek style with dry layer?
assuming i can get to the stage of colonised spawn for both strains, what do you recommend for fruiting?
just pop the flame over there on the shelf, thanks deano. just cos i is green don't mean i know shit about mycology. cubes i can do, but i'm only starting out in the world of agar and edibles. fun fun fun!

Yes, add the peroxide after pcing, and before the agar wedges. Look in the pet store for organic cat litter, the stuff made from recycled paper, as more sawdust in pet shops is pine or spruce. Both of which are a bit to sappy to use. If you can get hardwood sawdust, then thats the best bet,but its hard to come by in londinium.

thanks fellas. several small 100ml jars of water are in the pc now. when cool ( ), i'll add 1ml H2O2 to each, then a couple of agar pieces. hopefully from there i'll get liquid mycelium. edit: after adding the mycelium...: > back on the sawdust - explain 'hardwood'. if the petshop has generic sawdust, is that not still better than paper cat litter? (i'm concened about the additives in cat litter they use to stop it smelling of cat piss). or where should i go to get some good stuff - there are no lumber mills near me that i'm aware of. if i only need a little, i'm heading out with my saw to find some unsuspecting householder's 'hardwood' fence! oysters: mycelium to birdseed, or added sawdust / bran / straw? shitake: same question. and what is the correct moisture content / aeration of sawdust? sk

for oysters you can spawn straw with birdseed . shiitakes need a sawdust block made from oak . maybe paid could fire up his chain saw and send you some . bend over shirl, i'm sorry to have to do this

i spawned my shiitakes (wild clone) from agar to wood pellet fuel, and used that to inoculate logs . it takes months . i tried adding wheat bran to speed colonization, and got contams . i hope to see my first fruits this winter . commercial growers around here use a mix of alder and oak for sawdust blocks . guess i'm lucky to live in a place where we have lots of white oak trees .

After much searching I finally found alder wood chips in a shop that sells barbecue and smoker supplies. Maybe London has something similar? I supplemented the alder with a bit of bran and the Shiitake just ate it up!
Straw is all that I've fruited oyster on. Mmmm, oyster...

In the U.S.A. you can get barbecue wood pellets in various flavors to use as a substrate 70% moisture is ideal. use 4540 grams(10 pounds) of pellets to 3178 grams(7 pounds) of water 454 grams of your favorite bran

somewhere in that link (wow, the faq is HUGE!) i found this:
http://www.shroomery.org/index/par/23601/pag/7
it says i can use sawdust blocks, but that these contain "hardwood sawdust, grains, and other additives necessary for mycelia growth"
little help?
