LC dormant 30days then fully colonized
    #18011667 - 03/25/13 10:52 PM (11 years, 5 days ago)

If an LC was made with organic white honey what are the odds that it could lay dormant for 30 days then fully colonize? Also if it were tested with some rye berries what's the probability that it will contam if sterile procedure was followed?

Idk about dormant. You can fridge it after you make it to slow growth for 30 days, and then let it colonize.

So the jar is full of nickel sized Cotten balls and I shot up 1cc into a pint which is now about 25% colonized with no signs of contams. It has been slightly colder in my house roughly 60-78 possibly just slowed things down a bit?

There is no such thing as full colonization of an LC.  It's either colonized enough to work or it isn't.

This, you just have to test it out.

Im just playing devils advocate here but wouldnt you consider a LC depleted of neuts fully colonized? or would it keep expanding?

When I think fully colonized I think completely white.  Sure I suppose technically it could get fully colonized(that is to say deplete the nutrients), but it would take months.  Below is a pic of a LC that was about 10days old on 10-7-12.  The pic below is the same LC today, notice how much thicker it is.  The LC has sat at room temperature for all this time.

I should rephrase, I misspoke.  Full colonization of an LC is not necessary/practical.  Sounds like OP is afraid to use his LC because it's not "fully colonized."  Most people let their LC colonize for a week or two and toss it in the fridge, they don't wait til the jar is opaque with myc which could take month(s).

My lc had very few strand of colonization for days 1-21 then out of the blue a very small cotton ball formed so I created a vortex by hand and at day 30-35 the thing boomed and the liqui turned crystal clear and there are a bunch of cotton balls floating around now. What I was afraid of is creating a breading ground for contams being that lc is very succeptable to contam I was cautious however it just seemed odd that it not only didn't grow for roughly a month but also did not contam during that time. The pint jar I shot up with 1cc is colonizing decently just not super fast which is odd as everything I read about lc is that it's extremely fast compared to say a multispore jar. I will be extremely happy if it does work as out of the 3 clones into lc I made this was the one I wanted the most so I'm keeping my fingers crossed and keeping both the lc and the pint jar isolated just in case it does contam

Thanks man, I turned off the lights and set the LC on an X-ray viewer for the pic.  The x-ray viewer is pretty cool for tracing too.  I bought it when I was an aspiring tattoo artist.

Btw one batch is about to be intoduced into fruiting, another is 70% colonized and the third just showed some mic growth. No contams at all and very robust once it starts! Will update ones the first sub starts to pin
