Hey folks,
I am scouring all of the forums that I frequent to gather information about national trails in the US. I want to complete a thru-hike in the near future with my dog. I've done about 1/3 of the Appalachian Trail and would like to thru-hike it, but there are several sections that don't allow dogs which is a major issue for me. The other two trails i'm interested in are the North Country Trail (New York to North Dakota) and the Pacific Crest Trail (California to Washington). There's so much information on these trails that it is hard to sort through it all to find the information I need. I'm specifically looking for information about having dogs on these trails. If any of you have information or personal experience please chime in!

I live in the PNW and really close to many different sections of the Pacific Crest Trail, damned beautiful country up here and of course your pooch can come!
Here is a link to PCT FAQ's that I am sure you will find helpful in most regards. http://postholer.com/faq.php
In Section 8. under Considerations is info about bringing dogs on the PCT. Most of it is pretty universal wisdom I'd imagine. Also, regulations regarding pooches may vary from county to county and what not, so it may be wise to know those regulations, because ignorance of the law is no excuse to break it.
You'll be fine.

Not sure if the Florida Trail is on that list, but should be. We have a trail that goes along the entire length (at least to the Everglades, possibly ?The Keys?). They also seem to waive entry and I think some even camping fee's if you're a thru hiker. I'm contemplating doing one of these trails myself. I hear ya on wanting to bring the dog with tho.
