So I have been asking people to get some prints for me and alot of people are saying they are not getting any spores. I have to agree, the tinfoil pouch tek isnt really working that well.
Buuuuuuuuuuuuut.....
I had all those half frees the other day and I knew I couldnt eat them all and I put them in the dehydrator. So I turn it on , go and smoke one, and I go peak at them and the lid was just sprayed in spores!!! So I'm like hmmmmmmm.
Its the heat! The heat makes them release spores like mad!
So what I did was put some tinfoil over the caps that were obviously spitting out spores.Turn on the dehydrator and waited 10-15 minutes.
And low and behold, I got prints!!! 
So of course your thinking "Symon you dumb ass you know heat will kill the spores"
Well ya of course I thought of that.
So I put some on agar Wednesday to see if the heat did effect the spores ability to germinate.
And I am pleased to say that I have lift off already!!  The species is the western half free morel, Morchella populiphila. 
So maybe next time your dehydrating some morels and you want to get me a print, try putting some tinfoil over some caps and see if it works for you.

I never noticed heat causing sporulation in the 3-4 species ive dehydrated. Very interesting.

It's the drying... You'll get good prints if you lay them on tinfoil on a cookie sheet in your oven. No need to even turn it on; the pilot light makes it warm and dry enough to start sporolation. Crack the oven door and put your ear to it and you can easily hear the spores being released.

I do not think heat is directly causing the caps to drop spores. I think heated air is pulling the moisture from the caps, in turn causing the spores to fall. It would be much cleaner and easier to print morels in a foil pouch, inside a sealed container with an open bag of desiccant. (Damprid).
I learned this by accident. One day I placed a bag of desiccant in a print chamber to remove excess moisture from the prints. I normally place fresh prints into a container with desiccant for a few hours before finally placing them in bags, but that day I decided to skip a step and just place the desiccant in the printing chamber. As a result I found that EVERY single cap (multiple cube varieties) had dropped thick dark prints. I repeated this experiment, with caps from the same flush side by side in separate chambers. One desiccated chamber, one regular print chamber.
Desiccated chamber prevails every time. Now you know my secret. I know it only a matter of time before this becomes a regular practice with cubes anyways. I'm really curious to see if this method would work with morels. What do you guys think?

hey i dont have ANY problem printing any other species . I didnt have any luck with the pouch tek though, it got yucky.
But were all on the same page here, if I say its the heat, and you guys say its the drying, well the heat is causing the drying so were saying the same thing really.

lol yeah, no worries man we're all on the same page here. I figured everyone had the same idea. I remember learning about guard cells in plants, which open when water content becomes excessive to allow GE, and excess water moisture to transpire from the plant leaves.
I also learned about specialized cells in fungi that bear spores. I'm not sure what type of fungi we were even discussing. When water content drops, the structures holding the spores open, and the spores fall. That's how I justified my method. I figured my desiccated printing chamber counted as evidence lol.. I could be wrong though.
What do you think?

It only makes sense to me, drying out is the fruit bodies demise so therefore it must jump into high gear in order to complete its objective. Especially morels because they fruit before the dry season.

I think your on the right track
As an asocarp Morchella dispersed its spores like so. ( which is different than agaricales)
Other spore dispersal methods are out there such as the one used by Phallus rubicundus. It is a stinkhorn that attracts flies when the spores are mature by the smell.
Truffles use boars and wild animals to spread.
Agaricales use basidia to make spores and eject them out from the gills

As an asocarp Morchella dispersed its spores like so. ( which is different than agaricales)
Other spore dispersal methods are out there such as the one used by Phallus rubicundus. It is a stinkhorn that attracts flies when the spores are mature by the smell.
Truffles use boars and wild animals to spread.
Agaricales use basidia to make spores and eject them out from the gills
So what your saying is , i bust nuts a like Morchella ? Just a one shot BLAMMO !
