MONOTUB TO MONOTUB TRANSFERS
    #18161536 - 04/24/13 02:44 PM (11 years, 27 days ago)

Hello there all!!!

I have recently just fruited a wonderous monotub of cambodians shitakes(").went very well and fruited like 7 dry oz .

i am wondering now as to whether it is possible to break up that spent monotub and use it as spawn to build a new monotub.

i know this will work as i have done similar things but am not sure as to what ratio it can be transfered.

i was thinking will it work the same as grain to grain transfer.so one monotub becomes ten monotubs!!!or should it onlymake like 3 monotubss??

would really appreciatte somedebate with this one.i think its quite an exciting notion.;

thanks

jasper

I wouldn't use a 1:10 ratio but I've had luck using 50/50 old sub mixed with new substrate. People will probably warn you it's more likely to contam, but I've noticed that somehow it doesn't contam as readily as I'd think, possibly because all that new food for the myc gives it new vigor to fight the contams.

I will say, however, that if you've only done 1 flush so far you might be working too hard. Just dunk that bitch and see if it's got some more in it.

i thought 50/50 was probably the realistic ratio., lol shame 1/10 wouldnt work. i think it may work but would just take ages to colonise!!!!  im not so worried of contaimnates.ive never had toomuch problem.

It's technically possible but you're talking about a spent substrate. Not only are the nutrients from the spawn not replenished from a transfer but the mycelium itself is aged and has already extended itself. Transfers like that result in slow colonization and high contamination rates and far poorer yields than a freshly spawned tub.

I would just bury the old substrates and start fresh. You're talking about significant time and resources that could be better used.
