Using Quart jars
    #1814711 - 08/14/03 06:18 PM (20 years, 7 months ago)

I got some quart jars today but i couldnt find in the search or teks how many holes to put in the lids. I know you need 2 holes when you use polyfill and tape up the innoculation one.
I finially got some Tyvek from a shroomery friend and need to know how many holes to drill in the tops, I have WBS and Corn but i think it wont be abel to breath with just 1 hole.
I like you guys and i know this is a stupid question but i just want to do it right because i have only had little jars before.
Im pretty good with the small ones PF ones

Youre quart jars need a filter over the top. If there is a large open hole on it then it will be useless. The purpose of the holes in the cap lid is so that your substrate doesn't dry out. I think one or two holes would be adequate.

Punch one hole about 1/4 inch and another for the needle to go through. Out the Tyvek down on the jar and put the lid on top. Use the smaller hole for injection just punch through the Tyvek, but make sure to put some type of tape on the small hole right after. I use a 1/4 inch screw driver and an ice pic to punch the holes. One hole to breath is enough for a quart jar.

The purpose is so the mycelium can breath and let the excess co2 out. The holes would cause it to dry out.

Damn Ghoulbee you actually sound like the type of new people we need around here now....You are acting humble, polite and pleasant. You dont need but 1 hole for air x-change but i punch 2 small ones for innoculating then tape em up...I just like having 2 points opposite each other cause it seems like it evens shit out ...we all need good balance....

Actually, Mr24601 is quite right and SixSee was the one not making much sense. Maybe Mr24601 is a long time grower who just started posting.
