why are my caps breaking up?

info: thai KS on popcorn, 50/50+ casing, first flush
the caps in this picture are looking kinda broken up, is there anything that causes this? is it bad? Also, it looks like they've stopped growing and are dropping spores, with a height less than 2". What could have caused this?

I'm far from a pro, but that looks like scaling. I think it's caused by drying

i think, wietstocker is correct . casing is drying out . rh is too low . otherwise, they look like healthy portabellos .

you want everything to stay moist and not wet becuase too much water is bad.

the bottom of the container is lined with wet perlite, is this sufficient, or is misting necessary as well?

I would never use wet perlite at the bottom of the substrate this can be a contams paradise.Yes you still have to mist when the casing is looking dry but don't over mist it your just want everything moist not wet.Do you have that tray in some sort of grow camber or do you have a lid on it to keep the humidity up?Because misting will help keep the humidity up aswell which is also needed. You don't need as much humidity when you are casing as you do for cakes but never the lest you still need humidity

i think he meant that the perlite is under the casing, in the terrarium. that sounds fine to me if the casing is 50/50, etc.
If its dry like that, obviously the wet perlite isnt enough. start misting.

mist the casing layer, but try to avoid spraying directly on the pins . tip; if you don't have it in a terarium, drape some clear plastic film over it loosely. this will help keep rh up . the mushrooms will push the plastic up as they grow . keep edges of the casing tray dry so the plastic doesn't stick to it .

when i made my jars up, i used perlite and BRF(misinformation from wally world employee being reason for this) and full colonization occured in under 2 weeks so u should have no problem

h202 will kill spores so if you used h202 in your jars the spore are dead that why they never germinated yet

i didn't put the h202 in my jars, but thats good to know that it kills spores. so i guess you have to use it sparingly to mist casings?
