Their at it again.
Quote:
The Cyber Intelligence Sharing and Protection Act (CISPA) is a proposed law in the United States which would allow for the sharing of Internet traffic information between the U.S. government and certain[specify] technology and manufacturing companies. The stated aim of the bill is to help the U.S government investigate cyber threats and ensure the security of networks against cyberattack.[1] The legislation was introduced on November 30, 2011 by U.S. Representative Michael Rogers (R-MI) and 111 co-sponsors.[2][3] It was passed in the House of Representatives on April 26, 2012, but was not passed by the U.S. Senate.[4] President Obama's advisers have argued that the bill lacks confidentiality and civil liberties safeguards and they advised him to veto it.[5] In February 2013 the House reintroduced the bill [6] and passed it on April 18, 2013.[7]
CISPA has been criticized by advocates of Internet privacy and civil liberties, such as the Electronic Frontier Foundation, the American Civil Liberties Union, and Avaaz.org. Those groups argue CISPA contains too few limits on how and when the government may monitor a private individual’s Internet browsing information. Additionally, they fear that such new powers could be used to spy on the general public rather than to pursue malicious hackers.[8][9] CISPA had garnered favor from corporations and lobbying groups such as Microsoft, Facebook and the United States Chamber of Commerce, which look on it as a simple and effective means of sharing important cyber threat information with the government.[10] Microsoft and Facebook no longer support the legislation.[11] Some critics saw CISPA as a second attempt at strengthening digital piracy laws after the Stop Online Piracy Act met huge opposition.[12] Intellectual property theft was initially listed in the bill as a possible cause for sharing Web traffic information with the government, though it was removed in subsequent drafts.[13]

I'm not going to read all of that but I'll help to bump it. I just read it passed in the house and came to make a thread myself. According to what I already read the Senate and Obama may not back this. I'm not sure about the Senate as what I read was a little confusing, but it seemed straight forward about Obama wanting to veto this thing. Maybe to attach some hidden agenda BS? I guess Obama was pretty bummed his gun shit didn't pass. It's good the govt will let us keep our guns in case we get tired of them trying to infringe on our privacy rights. Does Enlil post here anymore?

you're associating the actions of totalitarian governments (spying, snatching, secret police) with the term "communism" - which is only relevant by the aforementioned association.
But i get your point - even if you didnt technically make it.

CISPA passed the house; the senate vote has stalled and could take all the way until June from some things I read. Part of the reason is that the senate has their own CISPA version, and Obama threatened to veto it in it's current state probably just like he wouldn't resign the Patriot Act or how he wouldn't sign the NDAA, and close Gitmo.
So really blah blah blah, bullshit bullshit, we're gonna fuck you eventually - but we may be safe for now.

It is communist in the sense that the government is not respecting our privacy. It is capitalist in the sense that politicians are selling our privacy to corporations so they can more market their shitty products to us. Like Obamacare, its the worst of both worlds. Liberty for the corporation, not for the individual.

Since when have they dine the right thing? I think Obama signing through the NDAA shows that if CISPA does manage to get to that level, then it'll go through...

How could anyone be for this?!!
I sincerely hope they'll veto the proposal like it's predecessor, I just see this as their second (or perhaps more) crafty and cleverly worded attempt.

imagine if goverment could read your internet data from your first hop from home. how could a VPN make you anonymous?
they can read all your data by "deep packet inspection" . google it. there's no way to escape this.
the days of "wild wild west internet" are gone now. get used to it.

This is and always has been just a matter of time. Even today a great deal of event choreography, from your uncles 53 birthday to works of terrorism , is done via interweb outlets. It would be foolish to think that the internet would stay as ungoverned as it currently is for so long.

pretty much. if this even leaves the senate obama can pocket veto it and put them all back at square one. unless of course there is some sort of back end reciprocity at play and the white house's rhetoric is empty.
