I like coir/verm. It holds plenty of moisture and is cheap. I like the consistancy it has. You can actually just pasturize it. I PC it for 30 mins tho. Good luck!

i dont usully use a casing layer, i prefer to just spawn
and yes you can use just peat you can nuke it you and bake it or you pc it
but you might want to buffer the ph cause its kinda on the acidic side

I use this and it is amazing and really easy to understand. It is one said by RogerRabbit
When you are measuring out your peat...for every cup of peat add 1 teaspoon of lime and 1 tablespoon of gypsum. Keep it dry til you are done mixing it all up....dry mix it!~ Then add the water to the peat, gypsum and lime. After that let it sit for an hour or so. Then test the ph. It should be right on ph wise. Then add your verm into the mix...after doing the above. 1 cup of verm for every cup of peat that you used.

Ever since Blutjager's suggestion to use this, I've had best success.
My vote: Miracle Grow - Moisture control. pasteurized then cased. Never had problems since.
