Do you agree with "you are your best therapist"?

So I've been going to a therapist these past few weeks. Not because I was particularly down, not more than usual anyway, but I've been feeling a bit lost, direction-less if you will and I wanted to see what she had to say.
So after a bunch of (expensive) sessions she's like "You are a very open and straight forward person in your every day life, which is psychologically healthy, but you have complex and deep intimacy issues which prevents you from forming strong, real bonds with people". I'm like...... WTF? I already know this! It's why I get laid, but I've never had a girlfriend!
I mean I am a particularly introspective person, and the psychedelic use has only amplified this so maybe not everyone is aware of their shit like I am, but THAT is her realization? It's not even that hard to pick up on my fear of intimacy, most of my friends know. So what's up with this bullshit? Is one really his own best therapist?

Charlie Sheen?
Anyway... I go to therapy twice a month, and it honestly helps me. Though, when I meet a new Therapist I tell them what's wrong with me, right down to the Tee, and why I have the emotions I do.
Then we just talk about random shit, and my daily problems over the past 2 weeks I wasn't their. I develop some coping skills, and have a person to bitch too, aside from family, and judgemental assholes.

Honestly yeah lol. There are a lot of people like this, though Charlie is way too over the top. It's easy to meet people, both friends and chicks and have a good time with them, but letting them into my soul and me getting into theirs is entirely different. I'm a lonely person by default, and that is the reason
That approach is interesting. Next time I'll tell her I'm doing fine, but I just wanna talk to somebody about my day and what's on my mind.

Well she was right to point out that realization, the next step should have been for her to help you figure out a way to take care of that issue.
I mean that's a therapists job: step 1, pinpoint and understand your issues (no matter how obvious they may seem to you). Step 2, help you to work on those issues.

That's what I did too and I recommend it.

Yeah, I think this is true for a lot of people who would frequent this type of forum. I certainly agree with that idea. I went to a therapist a few times for alcohol use, but I bailed after taking the rorschach and a personality inventory. Like others have said, the point isn't for them to find out what's wrong, it's to help you deal with it. They have to figure out what's wrong first tho. It's pretty annoying hearing someone list your faultsbespecially when you already know them, but you should go back at least one more time and hear their advice.

for some people, yes. the thinkers. a lot of people need help bridging the gaps.
sometimes its just a shift of perspective that helps too. but i know im not gonna be paying top $$ for someone qualified to talk me through a few weeks of life..

Maybe she was a bad therapist.
I don't think we are always our own best therapists. A lot of times there are things that we won't admit to ourselves, but therapists will.
