If you wrap your cedar chest in a blanket it will help keep the wood warmer for a longer period of time after the light shuts off.  You could also build a small plastic tent/room around your chest to keep the outside of the chest not in direct contact with the elements. A mini greenhouse, this will also help the humidity stay a little higher, dry wood sucks the moisture out of the air so after a few days of being in a mini green house it will stop sucking moisture out of your cakes.

Just a thought:mypleasure:

I like the addition of dunking the cakes in water and rolling them around on verm.  Haven't seen this in any other PF Teks.

A SGFC will not work in an enclosed space.

It needs room to stretch out and breathe.

Adding air pumps will not help with a SGFC.

Maybe you should look into a PMP style FC.

Ok. Well Ill buy a new and slightly taller tub tomorrow. Mine already has holes in it and I don't think it's tall enough after I add all the perlite and shit. Did a trial run tonight, couldnt get the humidity up. Ill try pmp fc. It seems a little easier and simpler. Thanks guys. Also, what extra ingredients have you had noticeable positive result with when mixing it in with a brf substrate cake?

I'm mixing using the 211 recipe. 10 Jars so 4 cups verm, 2 water, 2 rice flour for 10 jars. I even tried using less water because 211 gives me way too much. Same with the rice flour. I add it as directed and all I smell is rice flour and it turns my substrate white, so white that it looks like no substrate I've seen. So I used less of it. Nearly the same results...sticky stuck together cake when dumped. Trust me no water is getting in thats not the issue. I used a big kettle with only an inch or 2 of water just barely covering the bottom of jars. I used a rack to elevate them too. Lids on tight, and covered tight with foil. I just dont want to waste my syringe on some shit substrate. It should be noted that the 211 recipe must be altered accordingly to the verm coarseness and ingredients used.

The original tek didn't have a dunk and roll section.
A lot of people would use water soaked chop sticks, or the like, and stick them in the center of their cakes.
Others would cut a hole in the center & use a straw to hydrate the cake more.

You only really want to do this if your growing area isn't receiving any airflow at all and even then the fan will need to be placed on a timer to come on for a few minutes every hour and pointed indirectly at the fruiting chamber.  It's known as creating a passive-airflow.

This is just my 2 cents here, but I would further like to discourage the creation of a passive airflow when using brf cakes as the growing medium.  They are so small that I would imagine the utilization of a forced passive airflow would dry the cakes out anyway.

sounds more likely to be a hygromteer issue rather than the fruiting chamber. If its not calibrated for high humidity it wont be accurate. Just about every complaint about low humidity in a shotgun terrarium build to spec has been a poor hygrometer.

Wrap in a damp towel, after 1 hour adjust to read 99%. Cant adjust it? its no use then.
