i only use a microwave for sterilizing casings, not sure if you can do it for jars which seems like what you are talking about. im guessing not cuz aren't the lids metal??? wait for someone else on that

but yes you poke right through the tyvek with the syringe.

good luck

Leave the lid loose, Tyvek will not allow enough flow to release the pressure (a hole or two will still not provide enough flow). After the microwave is done, you can tighten the lid (being careful to protect yourself from steam burns).

I wouldn't bother with a hole while heating as long as the lids are loose (not totally off, but laying on top of the containers). What I have done with heating a jar in the microwave is to place one of those ziploc microwavable bags upside down over the top of the jar and lid. When the microwave is finished, I tighten the lid (wearing gloves) using the bag to grip it. This decreases the chances of contams as well as the chances of steam burns.

Inject right through the Tyvek and cover the hole with micropore tape or one of those little round band aids.
