First try, jars inoculated. Now, a question!
    #1810977 - 08/13/03 09:22 PM (13 years, 11 months ago)

Ok. I have done the PF-Tek for simple minds instructions and my jars are inoculated and waiting in a dark place. I am confident this will work but have some questions:

1 - I don't have an incubator at this point but the temperature has been around the range needed, is that ok? Will I loose them?

2 - The instruction were not clear on storing the jars in the dark, so they stayed for a day in a shadowy place under light cloth. Is that a big problem?

Ok, now must wait, that's the hard part.

Yours,

Jaester

room temp is fine in most cases. They may just colonize a bit slower. You are fine if you left them in the light the whole time. The only thing is they would pin and start growing before you birthed most likely.

I used the same tek a week ago...
Stored expirimentally in room temperature/different incubation circumstances, to see which would work the best.
A temp of about 80-85 in the incubator has been made, they've been sitting there for about 4 days in this... the previous 3 days were spent either in a different incubator, or in room temperature. All in the dark.
7 days and still no signs of mycellium growth...
The jars are still moist, and no contamination yet.
Is this abnormal? I've been kind of concerned.. because if it doesn't come up within the next few days, it's fucked.

2 weeks. If there is no germination after 2 weeks toss the jars. BTW: Karo syrup innoc cuts the germination and goes straight to growth! Very fast and very recommended! PM for details.

After reading some other things not mentioned in any of the faqs that I read on growing...
After sterilizing the jars, I let them sit until the jars were about 90 degrees to the touch, and then put them in the fridge for 30-45 minutes, until they were cool to the touch.
If nothing at all ends up growing, I'm going to guess the brf/verm inside was still wayy too hot for the spores.
Ohhh well, 20 dollars down the drain.  :frown:

Ok. It seems like I am in good shape, I definetely have the beginners worry! So I'll just wait and see what goes on, definetely a long wait, its probably the longer wait I'll have.

Thanks for the prompt replies.

Jaester

Yeah, if it doesn't work the first time, figure out what went wrong and try again.
