Psilocybe cubensis "creeper" on poo/straw cased
    #1809722 - 08/13/03 04:15 PM (13 years, 3 months ago)

these were started off a while back, and should pin soon, with a bit of luck:

step 1.  wild birdseed soaked, drained, loaded into jars, pced, cooled, and inoculated with creeper spore syringe. jars kept at ~85 for a few weeks, until they are 100% colonised and then some:

the incubator (another tub sits inside this one) :>

step 2.  bulk spawn prepared: straw mixed with some poo in a pillowcase, pasteurised in a bucket of water at 170 for 90 mins, drained, cooled, layered in clean tub with grainspawn, left to colonise under plastic with holes in it, in the dark. another 10 days or so until the spawn too is a 100% solid white block of substrate, 4-5 inches thick:

step 3.  next, the casing mix is made (verm, coir, peat, oyster, chalk) then moistened, nuked, cooled, and applied about an inch thick (1/4 the substrate thickness). this is returned to the cupboard, with newspaper on top, and inspected every second day. when first growth emerges, this is patched with casing material saved over (renuked and recooled). finally, when it is coming through all over fairly evenly, but not lying on the surface, these tubs are birthed in the terrarium:

..a few days later..

pre-patching:> at birth>terrarium>

step 4.  prepinning begins as we all sing happy birthday to the tubs (8 August). room temp around 80ish (i'd like it cooler, but the UK has a heatwave on) with background room light and fresh air from fishpump tubing. no additional humidification used, but the casings are misted twice daily to keep the surface layer the same colour (i.e. moisture). prepinning can take two weeks or so. five days in (today) we have this:

..aerial rhizo myc >

that's it! now we watch and wait....... maybe a week?

next proper update is for  step 5, the best bit of all: PINNING  (i hope!)

sk  :spliff:

update 16 aug:(8 days post birth)

still mighty warm here... what's a girl to do but wait and  :spliff:. i hope that tues 19 aug or thereabouts will be pinset day  :nut: :spliff:

update 17 aug:  bring on  step 5 Pinning >>>>>   day 9, earlier than expected !

18 aug:

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>  >>>>>>>>>>>>>click on these three v<^ shots for a better view

same again. how many can you spot? >>>> (i found 18)

both tubs off and running now, but this is the better one. sk  :spliff:

I'm getting ready to do some bulk (the Koh Samui spawn is almost ready).  What ratio do you mix your poo and straw.  If you could put it in terms for a stoner to understand I'd appreciate it.  :smirk:

Whats that snazzy looking gizmo on top of your tub?

I put holes on either side for fanning air exchange, that way theres a way out for the bad air.

I find if you fan from above, then the bad air just gets stirred around the base of the tub.

it's about ten handfuls of straw to one of poo.

the gizmo on the tub is a cheap petshop fishtank airpump. all seams and intakes are lined with micrpore tape. it sends a stream of moving air onto each tub.

'tis in the lap of the mushroom gods now  :noway:. pray to them for me!

shirl, i got a question fer ya..
how long did u let the pillowcase drain?
i will be startin my poo/straw this weekend and was wondering what watercontent i am looking for..
should i leave it overnight to drain?
should it drip a little when squeezed? should it drip alot? etc

i just picked my 1st creeper today.
they are a fantastic strain!!
ive never seen a more "perfect" mushroom! they are long, they have thick stems, they grown fast, and are contam resistant.
this creeper is probably THE best mushroom ive grown to date... and i grew it in a plastic cup! it was extra spawn i was gonna throw away..
no sterile procedures, just granspawn in a plastic cup with verm from the bag on top + water.. place plastic bag over whole cup, remove plastic once a day to vent... done..!!

good luck + thanks shirley, this is a great strain!

updated above - pins   in one tub today.

hyp - answered qs by pm.
newspore - i've done creepers before, that's where the print came from.

i think i came >this< close to overlay with the hot weather and the mycelial momentum and all. hopefully i got away with it. be prepared for some unnecessary overposting of excessive fruiting shots (myc equivalent of cumshots) over the next 5 days or so.

creepers 20 august [Re: Jackal]
    #1825657 - 08/18/03 12:25 PM (13 years, 3 months ago)

okay, that top post is getting too big to handle editing. i?ll post the pinning shots here: lighting may vary, which can explain colour differences.

1>

1 (corner) 18/8>19/8 20/8pm

....................................................................................................................................

2>

2 (edge)>

20 august - pics updated, as you see.

these in tub 1 may well be ripe for harvest in the morning.
those in tub 2 are behind. it musta been too dry, hence the edge pinning. probably another day or two.

stage 6 beckons - printing and drying

Creepers are nice. %) 3.5 g of creepers put me into an insane, high-lvl-4/lvl 5 trip.
